Stoneyard Brewing Co. "Cherry Pie"
16 fl. oz. can coded "44676"
$4.99 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: This is a "PASTRY SOUR ALE" brewed with natural flavors and lactose. It's poured a hazy golden & peach colored body beneath a full head of antique white foam. The aroma smells like vanilla icing on a cake with cherry behind it. It's surprisingly good! The taste, if you can believe it, is even better. It's tart but sweet, and the cherry and vanilla are both bright and work well together. I won't say they blend together because I'm getting vanilla then cherry and then vanilla again but you don't really want them to actually blend together, do you? I'm not finding any bitterness but none is needed as the acidity balances it in the finish. Some vanilla lingers shortly. In the mouth it's medium bodied and a little bit dextrinous due to the lactose. The carbonation is moderate and fine-bubbled leaving it creamy and smooth. Unlike the last beer that I had from Stoneyard just moments ago, their Peach Kolsch, this one had great head retention and left full walls of lacing behind. This isn't an everyday beer, it's a dessert beer, but I think as a special treat you could have one every now and again all year 'round.
