Inspired by frothing groms that attempt to "shred" Wharf #2 on massive swells, this cousin of our West Coast-style Local Shred Red is fermented with a juicy yeast strain that loves fruit-forward and dank hops. One could say it's a New England-style interpretation of a American Red Ale. No specialty malts, all color is derived from Belgian candi sugar.

Another good IPA from Alvarado. Nice dark color almost looks more like a Red ale. Nice fruit taste these guys keep making great beers looking forward on trying some more.

Growler fill from the brewery poured into a goblet glass. I'm having some confusion about the variety, seeing as it is listed as an IPA here, at the brewery as of 12/10/16, but also listened as a hoppy red ale at their website. It seems much more like a red ale to me.
Look - like iced coffee with a lot of cream, a very opaque muddy brown.
Smell - Dank, piny, skunky, and fruity hops, malt sweetness.
Taste - Very bright citrus on the front, followed with a nice roasty, caramel malt flavor and a slight yeasty spiciness, and finishing dry and resiny with a more balanced profile of tropical fruit and citrus.
Feel - Heavy, rich, viscous, but just smooth enough to be refreshing on the finish.
Overall - Not my type of beer typically, but this is pleasantly bitter given the hoppy fruit flavors and also sweet and rich in the malt level while being just refreshing enough throughout. Even if it's not my favorite, it hits basic marks quite well in the way I expect from Alvarado.
