Collaboration with Casa Agria Specialty Ales
Collaboration Double IPA with our Oxnard pals, Casa Agria Specialty Ales. A beautiful grist bill that includes a large percentage of Optic British, heirloom base malt, as well as a solid helping of flaked rye establishes a soft, biscuity background to layer hops. An arsenal of hops, that is. We chose some of our favorites: Vic Secret, Mosaic, El Dorado, Denali, & Eureka, yielding aromatics and flavors of strawberry, pineapple, honeydew melon and an underlying dankness reminiscent of fresh, purple nugs.

Mine was the red and yellow can label. Consumed January 2019.
Pours the yellow light amber color, hazy, turbid etc. . . there is a flimsy bubbled head on the top, 1/3" and off white. Certainly the least impressive aspect of the beer. The aroma was much better, good amount of Citra and Mosaic pushes the usual descriptors of sweeter tropical and citrus fruits.
Taste gets a degree of variation from the nose, the other 3 hops here seem to push some lesser known aspects of fruit flavors going on here, watermelon, melon, mostly melon like notes alongside the bevy of tropical and citrus ones. So basically you could do one of those reviews that just lists a word bank of usual descriptors to apply here. Relatively familiar with all 5 hops here, so its not a big deal, but sometimes that high number of a hop medley can use to overlapping taste and aroma notes that muddy the waters sometimes. Its fine here, its basically the usual collaboration that isn't as good as either breweries top notch hop stuff, but still plenty good and serviceable. Average bitterness.

This is everything I've ever wanted in a hazy double IPA. The malt is classic and english, yet not overpowering but not overpowered; biscuity and light; a perfect supporting cast to the star of the show. The hops on this beer are where it really shines. The hops ring with bright fruit in pineapple, strawberry and a slight tinge of something a little tarter (maybe an underripe stone fruit?). I would highly recommend this beer to anyone who likes a balanced hazy IPA.

Appearance; Arrives cloudy and light tan/orange colored; a modest head leaves some spots of lacing
Smell: Tropical fruit tones of papaya, guava and lychee; hint of peach
Taste: Tropical fruit juice tones of papaya, guava and lychee with peach rounding things out; bitterness builds, through the middle and blends with a juicy finish
Mouthfeel: Medium body with low to moderate carbonation
Overall: On the lighter tropical flavored end of the NE style despite the relatively high ABV; rather good and quite enjoyable

A really interesting beer. The grain bill comes through up front ... biscuity, wheat. But that subsides as you move through the beer with lemon curd, pineapple, candied citron coming to the forefront. There's some booze, some candy sweetness. The lingering finish is floral weed, dankness without resin or pine. The oats give the body some creamy heft.
