Collaboration with Great Notion Brewing
Collaboration Milkshake Double IPA with our Portland dudes, Great Notion! We've loaded up this juicy hop concoction with Nelson, Citra cyro, Simcoe and a hint of Eureka to bring the dank fire and set the stage for "Northern Lights" terpenes. The result is surprisingly a bright citrus and perfumey honeydew melon character, pairing perfectly with added creaminess from milk sugar and raw oats in the grist.
We've loaded up the 2023 edition with Simcoe, Galaxy, Waimea & Zeus to bring the dank fire and set the stage for "Northern Lights" terpenes. Everything in this beer hits just right. A blast of fruit punch charged sticky icky, perfumy honeydew, juicy stone fruit and freshly peeled navel oranges will nearly overwhelm your senses. The added creaminess from milk sugar, a restrained bitterness and a virtually invisible alcoholic warmth make for mellow sipping. Trust us, this is the good stuff.

Purchased in Oregon by my loving wife. Pretty black can with neon green design! Pours out a hazy orange/yellow with an inch fluffy head that mostly dissipates. Smells of strong tropical fruit, oranges, pineapples, and bananas, mango. Taste is also quite tropical, same flavors but a predominant taste is honeydew, as advertised. Which is interesting because I don’t think I’ve ever had a honeydew beer. There is also subtle grassiness of the terpenes giving it a slight balanced bitterness. Mouthfeel is light and lively, fuzzy effervescence. On the the back of the can it states “Drink fresh / Burp terps” which is interesting because the heaviest cannabis flavor comes through after I actually burp! That’s quite a unique experience. This reminds me of Hoppin Frogs “Not a pot brownie” or their “All along the terp tower” beers, both of which were brewed in the same vein. I’m not a cannabis lover, but I can appreciate the taste. Overall a quite interesting beer!

Can poured into an Alvarado Street Brewery Willi Beecher glass
A: Pours hazy golden amber with a frothy off white head that settles to a light layer and laces nicely.
S: Fresh ripe melon, tropical, exotic, and stone fruit, a little citrus, a touch of pine, dank diesel-y tones, biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.
T: Ripe honeydew is the first flavor that lands, followed by a mix of citrus, tropical, exotic, and stone fruit, big mandarin orange, pineapple, white grape, passion fruit, gooseberry, apricot, peach, grapefruit, and hints of lychee and green plum, a touch of pine, a little diesel that brings an understated dankness with it, biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.
M: On the fuller side of medium body, moderate carbonation, soft on the palate.
O: Finally giving this one a go. Boy howdy is it unique, in a really good way. I'm typically not big on melon flavors, but here they come off as cool, ripe, and refreshing, with all the other flavors coming together nicely behind it. Kinda reminds me of a green Melona bar.

This pours like a mangonada without the pulp. Smooth and creamy, with a lot of juicy fruit purée and that eponymously named dankness. It’s really enjoyable, in a nice and surprising way.

L: Beautiful hazy-hazy golden straw colored IPA with lots of head, three finger breaths that cling to the glass, must be the lactose.
S: Sweet smell of tropical fruit pastries and freshly cut mango and oranges.
T: Mouthfeel is a different category, but it just jumps out at you. The viscosity surprises you! It baths you entire mouth and all your taste buds in a sweet symphony of honeydew melons, tangerine, orange, mango with cool whip. It’s a heavenly airy balance that with a sweet finish.
F: The bubbles and viscosity both contribute to a heavy mouthfeel. It leaves a sugary residue on your lips.
O: Heaven! This is a beer everyone will love!

Fresh can from Lúpulo.
Looks like orange/pear juice. Not transparent, smoothie appearance. fluffy nice white head.
Smell: honeydew, pineapple, apple, weed.
Taste: very sweet, tangerine, pineapples, grass, bananas, aftertaste of dank and bittersweet.
Mouth: juicy, pillowy, fluffy, almost gelatinous, just as expected.
Overall: I had previously had 1 milkshakes ipa and Had sworn them off forever. This one is a helluva lot better, but still won’t seek them out. The mouthfeel is just too thick. This one isn’t offensively sweet, but too sweet for my preference.
As good as I could hope for. The breweries involved, the can art, the name, the terpenes all works together.

Sweet white wine grape, grapefruit citrus, and hint of dank nose on this one! Taste follows with a creamy-smooth sweet citrus, and a mild and subdued hoppy dankness. I know this is a milkshake style IPA, but I was expecting a little more of a kick in the pants from the dank notes since terpenes were added. This hides the 8.5% ABV very well and takes on a honeydew melon vibe as it warms. This has decent depth...not as creamy as I was expecting. This is good!
For the 2022 batch! Sweet tropical hoppy, floral lemony citrus, and hoppy-dank nose on this one! Taste follows with a creamy and smooth, floral citrus, and hoppy bitter finish...some bitter dank notes show up more as it warms. I was a little concerned about the new hop profile since it didn't include any Nelson...and, the appearance made me doubtful as well. But, ASB has been on a decent run, so I took a chance...and while it is not up there with some of there better nelson dominant brews (IMO), it's still a pretty good batch!
