Collaboration with Burial Beer Co.

Sometimes we need a break from the juice. Something packed with pure hop flavor and aroma, without any major contribution from yeast...something bitter...something dry!

Our friends from Burial Beer Co. came out from Asheville, North Carolina a few weeks ago to help us accomplish just that. A West Coast IPA that's a nod to the hoppy beers that have inspired us over the years. A classic dry hop of Simcoe, Centennial & Columbus have been elevated to over 4 lbs per bbl, yielding intense grapefruit, pine & resin notes, all in the bone-dry backdrop of pale malt and a squeaky clean fermentation.

Pours Golden with minimal head. Balanced citrus and pine aroma, on smell and taste.
Juicy thick mouthfeel. West Coast IPA per can but aside from citrus taste feels hazy.
Good but not really exciting. Kind of difficult to drink. Perhaps it’s juice fatigue.

Can poured into an Alvarado Street Brewing Co pint glass

A: Pours golden amber with a frothy off white head that settles to a light layer and leaves some spotty lacing.

S: Floral, pine, a little citrus, faint earthy, herbal, and fruity notes, biscuity malt, and a touch of caramel sweetness.

T: Soft citrus, lemon and a touch of orange, floral, some spicy pine, underlying fruity notes, apricot and passion fruit, faint earthy herbal notes, biscuity malt, and a little caramel sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: Very smooth and easy drinking. Kinda like they took out a fair amount of the IBUs from a classic West Coast IPA, but left all of the flavor.

Another surprise colab.

This was a classic west coast looking beer with a tropical new hop profile. Clear and clean and crisp. Had on tap at the Toronado while fresh.

Looking at the hop roster of this beer, with big names like Simcoe, Centennial, and Columbus, I know this will have a strong hoppy OG flavor, something that I have been missing in the midst of NEIPAs. Anyways, I am excited to try this brew out. Let's get it started.
L: Pours a straw yellow in color with minimal head formation on the pour. Moderate amounts of lacing left on the glass, with a foamy ring that persists around the perimeter. It has an unfiltered appearance, and most certainly is not completely transparent.
S: Simple and straight forward- grass, lemon and grapefruit with semi-sweet bready malt undertones.
T: Really delicious. Citrus up front with a dank and earthy finish with plenty of citrus flavor that carries over. Malt flavor is detected but not as prominent as the aroma would lend. These classic hops implemented really sine through, making this a delicious beverage.
F: Medium in body and in weight, with moderate carbonation for the style. No booze presence, perfect fizzle on the tongue. All around great feel.
O: It is refreshing, bold, and tasty. The hop profile really compliments the rest of the beer and the malt presence is not over bearing. Truth be told, I would easily drink this again, and if given the opportunity, I would buy more. Tasting exceptionally well after a day in the hot sun. I am very glad to try, and I fully recommend. Cheers!

Pours clear gold with a small head the quickly dissipated, very low head retention and almost no lacing. Balanced grapefruit/dank piney aroma, taste pretty much follows.
Good, juicy, old-school style West Coast IPA with low bitterness. Solid, but not really all that distinguishable from lots of other new WCIPAs out these days.
