An exceptionally bright, and true-to-form West Coast Double IPA, Bay Area-style. Brewed by the Coast Chapter of the Bay Area Brewers Guild, Surf 'n Burps features exciting new hops that include Cashmere & Sabro, along with the always popular Mosaic. Strong citrus notes of lemon & lime combine with peach, pineapple and coconut flavors & aromas from this blend of hops. A firm, but smooth bitterness follows before finishing bone dry, without the faintest kiss of alcohol from this 9% beast.

Another pickup from SFBW in Feb 2020 at the Berkeley Bowl before Sour Sunday.
Pours a good golden with ample clarity and 1" full on head. Mosaic pushes plenty of the tropical nose. Sabro has a tough job pulling up with that long range jumper with Mosaic guarding the nose. Not pulling much in the way of green pepper from it. Guessing all the citrus comes from Cashmere.
Taste is delightful, really amps up the non orange/tangerine kind of citrus interplay of citron, lemon, lime and grapefruit. Cashmere has this Simcoe + more citrus vibe going for me, but also providing a good bitterness similar to Simcoe. The mouth feel is amazing, both crisp, clean and hiding the alcohol in just a world class way, hard to believe this is almost as strong as Bigfoot. The pilsner malt in a double ipa is such a great move for this beer. Really works so well mouth feel wise. If you had to come up with a complaint about this beer (besides cost/availability) it would have to be that Sabro is almost inconsequential here.

Sweet, tropical hoppy, slightly malty, slightly boozy nose on this one! Taste follows with some overripe pineapple, soaked in booziness upfront...and then some slightly boozy hoppy bitterness lingers on the back of the throat. Maybe I got a bad can, but this seems unbalanced and the hop combo doesn't seem to be playing well together...it seems disjointed from taste to finish. I'll revisit a second can to further evaluate...disappointed.

Canned 1/30/20, consumed 2/25/20
Pours a slightly opaque, misty honey gold color; finger+ sized foamy head, good retention and a little spotty lacing.
Strong, sweet hoppy aroma of a nice citrus/tropical fruit mix. Taste is more confirmation that they put together a great blend, complementary flavors all around. The feel is incredible - full body, easy bitterness, and lovely dry finish. Pretty perfect for this strong of a DIPA. Overall, one of the best new WCIPAs I've had in a while.

Canned 1/30/20 - poured into a teku glass.
L: pours a clear light gold with just a finger length of foam and a nice egg shell white top. Rentention was solid as was the lacing.
S: pouring it out of the can was even giving off faint aromas so I knew it had to be strong. Notes of honey, grass, citrus (lemon and lime), and I get the coconut too. This nose hits you like a truck, what a strong one!
T: with the strength of the nose I was expecting big, bold flavor and it delivered! Taste is a match to the smell. Citrus (again that lemon and lime), grass or just earthiness and some stone fruitiness with coconut right off the bat. That honey/sweetness finishes it off nicely but balanced out by a good alcohol bite (9% is great for this beer).
F: this has a medium to full body I feel and some great tang/bite with a nice dry but smooth finish, well balanced again.
O: excellent collab, this beer is two words for me, bold and balanced. Huge smells and flavors but also each is balanced very well. This might be my new favorite west coast DIPA.
