Consumed December 2020. Somehow this is still the first review of the beer for BA.
Pours a milky yellow, clarity not strong suit, looks more like a watery hazy ipa. The appearance, while lackluster, would be the only weak spot on a good beer. The aroma pops nicely, although I am surprised to learn it was Nelson in the bill. Definitely had that down under breathiness and gooseberry thing, would have guessed Moteuka or Riwaka though alongside the Simcoe.
Taste is nice, you get a boatload of hops in a pale ale. The body is super light and while some might call it watery, its just very light and you know, pale ale session levels alongside what I assume is a flaked wheat and oat combo. For being Simcoe hopped, you just don't get that dry bitterness that it normally provides. But that is what the hazy body is for amiright? Like, that was their military objective.
I liked this, but at $5-6 a can retail, its a rare once a year at best kind of treat. Totally different kind of pale ale than SNPA, but nowhere is it 5x as good. Its not even better, just good and a totally different kind of pale ale.
