XPAs, or Extra Pale Ales, are thirst quenching and refreshing above all else. That is one of the big reasons why we love them and why we (somewhat selfishly) brew them. But don’t let the brilliant clarity, straw gold color, or light body fool you- these beers are brimming with flavor. Notes of dried apricot, fresh picked guava, and passion fruit are brightened by a splash of lemon/lime and lent depth by a subtle herbaceous diesel character. A light snap of sneaky bitterness and a touch of minerality provide a tantalizing counterpoint to a malt presence that has surprising depth. It is nuanced and effervescent, but also satisfying and infinitely drinkable. Get some soon or we might just drink it all up ourselves.

Can poured into an Alvarado Street Brewery Willi Beecher glass

A: Pours golden yellow with a frothy off white head that settles to a firm layer and laces beautifully.

S: Grassy, slightly herbal, citrus zest, a little tropical and stone fruit, and crackery slightly biscuity malt.

T: Zesty citrus, lemon, lime, and tangerine, a bit grassy, underlying tropical and stone fruit, apricot, mango, peach, passion fruit, light melon, and a hint of guava, faint herbal tones, crackery biscuity malt, and a fairly dry finish.

M: On the lighter side of medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: Light and crisp, definitely does the job on a warm day. It suffers a little bit just by nature of being what it is, which can leave the finish feeling a bit thin and watery. Would make a great lawn mower beer.

Can dated 05/12/21 into an imperial nonic pint glass.

L: Straw yellow, with just a tick of haze, with 2+ fingers of low-density frothy pillowy head with great retention and left substantial mixed lacing.

S: Bright floral and citrus.

T: Follows the nose but leans heavy towards the citrus aspects. Finishes with mild bitterness and a hint of astringency.

F: Low-medium bodied with medium carbonation, slick on the tongue and swallow.

O: A nice subtle brew, I'd definitely repeat on a hot summer day.
