Collaboration with Faction Brewing

Born out of a strong respect for pale ale, a love of both modern and classic hops, and a call out to forging our own paths — we collectively brewed “I Did It My Way”. In the spirit of collaborating OUR way (no rules, no market pressure, just for the love of beer), we’ve called this an IMPERIAL SESSION IPA, swapped artists for the can label, and brewed nearly the same beer — both featuring Nelson Sauvin and Cascade hops, with Alvarado folding in some Idaho 7 and Faction rocking some Mosaic. Solid bitterness backed by a firm malt presence, courtesy of toasted wheat in the grist...this is a beer designed for drinking! Just not with your pinky out...
…
Huge respect for Faction and their crew! We are constantly inspired by what they make, and it doesn’t get anymore NorCal than having a strong pale ale on their deck, overlooking the SF skyline. Although Rodger and JC have both determined that the Sales Force tower is pretty whack.

Seems like something called an imperial session ipa is an inside joke. Whatever. I like the Sinatra song. This is the Faction version.

Pours a dark golden pour with a light bronze tinge to it, has good clarity. Good looking beer. 1" of full white head after pouring into a Humboldt hemp ale pint glass. The aroma didn't pan out for me. Looks like I was watching a baseball game during this beer. For something with Nelson and Mosaic hops in it, its weird how Cascade seemed the most dominant. Could be one of those 5/5/90% breakdowns. Just a woody grapefruit rind going on. Stems and grapefruit rind.

The taste seemed maltier with something having 'session' in the name, although the mouth feel didn't display the same attribute. It had the Cascade bitterness that wasn't over done, but the Nelson and Mosaic just had no edge at all. So disappointing in that regard. I guess this beer was closer to Faction's average than Alvarado's.

Sweet tropical hoppy and hint of piney white wine grape nose on this one! Taste follows with a citrus hoppy and piney hoppy bitter finish. A little earthiness comes out on the backend due to the Idaho 7 hops...and the bitter bite increases as it warms. I love the name and can art, but this is just decent.
