Teaming up with San Diego hop legends, Pizza Port Brewing Co, we’ve cooked up a West Coast take on a refreshing, Kolsch-style ale! Featuring Simcoe, Strata and experimental HBC 586 hops, there are bold notes of red fruit, pine, citrus and fresh geraniums amid a bready malt base. Extremely dry, balanced and serviceable in a 5.7% package. Drink this out of the can for a more traditional Kolsch-like drinking experience as it retains the snappy carbonation, or pour it out into a glass to express more hop character — there’s a bit of magical “San Diego” hop haze that will fade with aging.

Mildly cloudy bright yellow body; moderate carbonation; relatively thin, fluffy head. Nice aroma; light cracker malt base with a mild tropical fruit aroma. The taste is more malt forward with a moderate hop bitterness; a little citrus pith suggestion. Medium body; a bit coarse on the palate; notable alcohol dryness.
This beer doesn't quite measure up to what I would consider a good example of the kölsch style. If anything, the beer seems more like a west coast styled pale or India pale ale. It also felt coarser and seemed less refreshing on the palate compared to other examples I've enjoyed. This is still a decent beer, but not in a traditional sense for the style.
