Collaboration with Cellarmaker
Vanilla Latte Inspired Smoked Imperial Stout with Comoros Vanilla Beans, Vertigo Coffee, & Milk Sugar
For batch ninteen we teamed up with our great friends at Cellarmaker Brewing in San Francisco to brew up this beauty just in time for our 9th Anniversary. Our love for their incredibly tasty Smoked Porter, Coffee and Cigarettes, was the motivation behind this Vanilla Latte Inspired Smoked Imperial Stout.

On tap at Out of the Barrel
A: Pours basically black with a frothy khaki head that settles to a light layer and leaves some nice lacing.
S: Like shoving your nose straight in a bag of vanilla beans, brown sugar and toffee, spice, roasty slightly earthy malt, a touch of smoke, and a little espresso and milk chocolate.
T: Big vanilla and brown sugar, toffee, soft spice, smooth espresso, milk chocolate, slightly earthy roasted malt, subtle char, and a touch of smoke and faint tobacco on the finish. A touch of alcohol can poke through, bit it combines with the rest of the flavors to provide an almost bourbon like character.
M: Full body, soft carbonation, creamy smooth. Alcohol is basically completely hidden.
O: Stoked to get to try this one. I'm a big fan of Cellarmaker's C&C, so I knew these 2 breweries coming together to make a Motor Oil edition inspired by it and then pumping it up even more had to be good. And it is. Huge vanilla presence with the depth that only a hefty dose of full beans can impart. Wouldn't mind if the coffee was a touch stronger to balance the sweetness, but that's being super nitpicky. Ridiculously good beer.
