Collab w' Cellarmaker + Cloudburst + Faction + PInthouse
For the breweries we've worked with on this beer, there are two quasi-obsessions: Pale Ale & Simcoe. We all adore these two things, and it would be egregious to not brew a collaborative Pale Ale dominated with three different lots of Simcoe T90 pellets, Simcoe 301 fresh hop cryo, and Simcoe 702 hop extract. The twist: A lil' bit of exemplary HBC 586 hops to compliment said Simcoe. So there you have it, an easy drinking Simcoe heavy Pale Ale to celebrate 10 years of BURP HOPS!

Can poured into an Alvarado Street Brewery Willi Beecher glass
A: Pours golden yellow with a slight chill haze and a frothy off white head that settles to a light layer and laces nicely.
S: Herbal, faintly spicy resinous pine, a touch of citrus zest, subtle underlying tropical and stone fruit, bready malt, and the trademark HBC 586 sulphury notes.
T: Spicy resinous pine, citrus, grapefruit, tropical and stone fruit, mango, passion fruit, apricot, and a hint of lychee, herbal notes, sulphury tones, and bready malt with a fairly dry finish.
M: Maybe a touch on the fuller side of medium body, moderate carbonation. Definitely drinks heavier than a 5.5% Pale Ale.
O: I keep going back and forth on how to score this one. I was excited for a Simcoe showcase and to see how all the new hop products can make a classic hop shine even brighter. I'm getting tripped up by the addition of the HBC 586. It adds some complimentary depth flavors, especially the mango, but I think it comes off a bit too assertive. The only way I think it works is if you say you're leaning into a more fresh hop inspired brew where all that herbal stuff is expected. Otherwise I think it would have been better to use a cleaner accent hop like Galaxy or Amarillo, or to make it a true single hop Simcoe beer with some late additions to show off the full it's full range. That being said, the end product fits the styles of the collaborating breweries, so I'd say they hit their target. In that sense, it's a well made beer, but I'd probably reach for some else for my next round.
