Stand back as Viper, the newest addition to our Dad’s Dream Ridez garage, roars to life. This sinuous beast of a West Coast Double IPA is ready to strike at any moment and deliver a massive dose of face-melting hop oil venom. This overwhelming infusion is saturated with an expressive blend of Nelson, Rakau, and Motueka sourced from our good friends at Garston Hops in the Southland of New Zealand. The impressively specific terroir of Garston-grown hops, when compared to other hops not only in NZ but the world, is nothing short of mind-boggling.

Wanna hear something that really makes this beer special? The hops used in Viper are the first of the 2024 Garston crop to enter the United States and be used in a beer! The disorienting array of diesel, passion fruit concentrate, tangerine peels, earthy kiwi, watermelon, and peach flavors will leave you breathless. Strap in tight. Viper may be a thing of beauty, but subtle it is not.

Can poured into an Alvarado Street Brewery Willi Beecher glass

A: Pours golden yellow with a frothy off white head that settles to a firm layer and laces nicely.

S: Lively citrus, exotic, tropical, and orchard fruit, melon, a little Southern Hem diesel, a bit grassy, resinous pine, light floral notes, biscuity slightly bready malt, and a touch of caramel sweetness.

T: Resinous pine, zesty citrus, lime, grapefruit, lemon, and a hint of tangerine, underlying exotic, tropical, and orchard fruit, gooseberry, passion fruit, pineapple, white grape, apricot, peach, mango, pear, melon, and hints of plum, grassy, faint Southern Hem diesel, light floral notes, biscuity malt, and a little caramel sweetness.

M: A bit on the fuller side of medium body, mild to moderate carbonation, fairly soft and a bit chewy.

O: I'm not always the biggest fan of beers that use Rakau hops because of how some of the fruity notes come through, but here they all play nicely with the Nelson and Motueka. Each hop comes through without totally dominating the others. Still not my favorite beer in the series, but I wouldn't turn down another pint of it.
