Holy Sh*t we made a pumpkin beer! Well, sort of. No actual pumpkin, but plenty of spices to be all pumpkin pie-like. Let’s be honest. There’s a good amount of folks who crave the comforting themes and flavors of the Fall season, so after about a decade we decided to oblige. And honestly, we’re kicking ourselves for waiting this long… because it’s crazy delicious.
Don’t sleep on this frighteningly flavorful Pumpkin Porter. Lurking in its enveloping darkness is a gathering of delectable delights waiting to take your palate by surprise. Warm, fragrant cinnamon leads a horde of savory pumpkin pie spices. Phantoms of dark fruit and cacao materialize, dripping with sticky molasses. A beguiling sweetness pulls you in deeper and loses its grip just in time for an escape through a complex, satisfying finish. But now the darkness has taken hold of you, and you can’t resist for long.

Can poured into a Mountain Rambler Brewery snifter
A: Pours dark chestnut brown with a frothy tan head that settles to a light layer and leaves a little spotty lacing.
S: Lively spices, cinnamon, ginger, peppercorn, allspice, nutmeg, and clove, brown sugar, toffee, milk chocolate, a little toasty malt and mild earthy char, a touch of molasses, subtle dark fruit, and floral hints.
T: Spices jump right out, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, peppercorn, and clove, brown sugar, toffee, milk chocolate, mild roasty malt and earthy char, and a hint of molasses, plus subtle dark fruit and dare I say floral notes on the finish.
M: A bit on the fuller side of medium body, mild carbonation, creamy smooth.
O: If you're looking for a more traditional pumpkin beer that embraces the gourd, keep moving. However, if you've got on your UGGs and a cute sweater and basically want the beer equivalent of a PSL, this is the one for you. It is a bit sweet, but I think they still nailed what they were going for. If they added some coffee I think it would actually round out pretty well. As it sits it's a really fun guilty pleasure of a dessert beer.

There’s a delicious entity in here somewhere, but I’m surprised at the sweetness. Whoa, it’s….distracting. The spicy notes on display are stunning, and it is incredible to simulate pumpkin without actually using it; I just wish they would tone down the brown sugar - it could be amazing then.
I’d love it if they’d make a pumpkin porter (or stout) with actual pumpkin and then we could compare the results. Hmm, I wonder which would win.
