Perhaps I am just not familiar with Saisons that are as dark as stouts. This one is. Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. VERY dark brown. No transparency. Some coffee flavor, toasted malt, nothing really stood out. Modest head, limited lacing.
Unsure if I would buy again but very drinkable and happy to support a local wood-fired brewery

Bottle from Bert's
Dark brown with ruby at the edges and a huge creamy off white head that persists forever. Light chocolate and fruity notes with plenty of yeasty esters. The flavor is big on caramel and chocolate with a moderate level of earthy bitterness. Spicy phenols round this one out nicely. Feels a bit more like a hoppy dubbel than a saison, but probably the best beer I've tried from these guys so far.
