More or less untitled bourbon barrel-aged rye wheat imperial stout - in this recipe we used all rye wheat specialty grains which make for a nuanced non-adjunct stout which was aged over one year in bourbon barrels.

On tap at the brewery. Inky black with a mocha head. Smells sweet. Lots of bourbon. Brown sugar. A little rye. Tastes less sweet. Sharp rye flavor up front. Some chocolate. Still pretty sweet. Boozy bourbon flavor lingers. Heavy. Slow to drink. But good.

16 September 2020 - Beer #183
Price: $27.99 on Tavour
Appearance: 5 - very dark with a tiny mocha head. Terrific lacing.
Nose: 5 - nearly all barrel. Reminiscent of Bourbon County.
Taste: 5 - really excellent. Pretty much a straight up BA stout but with a little spicy kick from the rye.
Mouth: 5 - super thick and chewy. I'm almost choking.
Overall: 5 - man, sometimes the adjunct-less stouts just nail it, like this one.
Cheers!

L: Super black with no disturbance. There was something of a head that faded to absolutely nothing in a momentary blink. Not much to look at.
S: Nice vanilla and cocao - toasted malts and molasses.
T: Superb. Follows the nose with the added complexity of tobacco, rye, leather, bourbon, and oak.
F: Silky and syrupy in equal medium weight and proportion. Little to no carbonation.
O: Impressive. Now I understand Cycle’s rise to success and admiration.
As the bottle says DO NOT age this brew. You will round off what it has going for it.

This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This one smells like deep rye spice, molasses, bourbon, smoke, coffee, and vanilla.
Cycle is obviously very adept at heavily adjunctified stouts, so it's very refreshing to see that they are also extremely adept at just straight up stouts. The base chocolatey grains are sweet, slightly molasses-ish, but the heavy rye infusion adds a spice, roast, and smoke that balances this out tremendously. There's a nice caramelly and just slightly boozy bourbon barrel character.
It's very smooth, and the booze mostly doesn't poke out at all. It's creamy, and pretty thick, with a good drinkability.
I'm definitely pleased that Cycle is still pumping out good stouts, and they can make a great stouts that doesn't have all sorts of desserts added to it.
