These are the more traditional rum barrels with everything you would expect possibly including the addition of a ton of coconut. These are not like Prichard’s rum barrels, but that didn’t hurt the final product here!

Bottle. Black color. Thick. Little to no head. Coconut floated all around.
I honestly didn’t expect much from this, but I blew me out of the water. Massive coconut bomb, that old cycle thickness that I have missed, great rum barrels. Wow oh wow. Thick and fudgy. Rum spices for days. Vanilla and coconut. Cake batter.
This is the cycle I once knew. Well done.

1 April 2020 - Beer #64
Corona Day #20
Price: $29.99 on Tavour
Appearance: 3 - black and yucky. Absolutely zero head, and big time coconut floaties. Eww.
Nose: 4 - nothing but rum. And not a heck of a lot of it. No coconut to speak of, or stout for that matter.
Taste: 4 - cloyingly sweet. Just a touch of coconut. Barely tastes like a stout, it's almost like an old ale.
Mouth: 3 - extremely sticky, but a bit flat. Eww, I ate a floaty. It wasn't even crunchy.
Overall: 4 - a sweet boozy mess. Their Rare / DOS series are some of the best BA stouts I've had. This is not one of those. Good enough to eke out a 4, but barely.
Cheers!

The beer pours a gorgeous, slick, viscous black. The head, which immediately disappears starts out dark brown and burnt sienna. Opaque. Zero visible carbonation. Tons of flakes of coconut, which is rather off putting when it comes to the appearance.
The nose is milk chocolate, toasted coconut and raisins.
The beer is super thick and creamy, but the rum and coconut are rather subtle. There’s a ton of chocolate and raisin. I also get cinnamon. This is my first stout from Cycle. It’s nuanced, which I like, as much as an 11% rum barrel aged coconut stout can be.
Milk chocolate. I think the rum and coconut are in check. And I think there are some base stout qualities showing. It’s not straight dessert for me and I think that makes it pretty drinkable. That’s why I used the word “nuanced.”
In could probably do with 16 ounces max given the sweetness and heavy feel, but otherwise excellent.

Very dark appearance with slight tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is a very pleasant rum and malt with a touch of coconut. Taste is also a very smooth rum malt and coconut. I little thin.

This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and no lacing, and a few stray coconut floaties.
This smells like rich toasted coconut, lots of fum, oak, molasses, and spice.
This is definitely a bit more barrel forward than the typical Cycle stout - I guess that's a feature of the old fashioned rum barrels here. There's a good amount of toasted coconut, but it's definitely not quite as "adjunct"-heavy as most Cycle beers. There's lots of chocolate, and a bit of spice and molasses too.
This is medium bodied, creamy and slick, with a decent level of drinkability, and a lower level of carbonation.
This isn't quite upper echelon Cycle, but I still enjoyed it quite a bit.
