Introducing our new pilot beer, Clockwork ESB! "Extra Special Bitter" is a traditional English style beer that balances rich malt notes of caramel, toffee, toasted bread and biscuits with floral, earthy and herbal English hop character. Plenty of subtle complexity to keep you interested, and still sessionable enough to have a few.

A: Salamander orange hue with darker, robust amber. It is opaque, but does add to the depth of the color. Cream khaki head, silken, great retention.

S: Dirty toffee (i.e. speckled with cocoa/espresso). Citrus tinged, earthy hoppiness. Lightly toasted white bread and uplifting florals.

M: Med-light body and moderate carb that could actually be taken down a little bit. Drinkable morning, afternoon and night.

T: Toast x biscuit combination but not toasted biscuit. Traditional hopping with background herbal, earth and uplifting florals; sage and lightest of lemon pepper, and very clean tasting. Low perceived, walnut-based bitterness in the finish with prominent toffee.

L: The beer comes in a deep brown color that is completely opaque. The pour I receive has a finger of khaki head that has good retention even in the plastic cup it is served in leaving a nice spotted and ringed lacing as the beer goes down.

S: I get prominent toffee and a bit of caramel. Also getting light floral notes and a bit of earthy character.

T: This is a classic ESB exhibiting a very "to-style" taste profile. Strong toffee and light caramel, herbal qualities, a bit of earth, some grainy toasted malt character, subtle notes of dark fruits, some nuttiness, and a nice medium-light bitterness on the finish.

F: medium-light body with low to medium-low carbonation. The mouthfeel is nice and smooth with a very restrained dryness on the finish. Very drinkable.

O: If you like English beers you need this one in your life. As far as the nose and palate are concerned this is a spot on interpretation of the style. Bravo! My only criticism would be that it is a bit opaque for the style, but that is completely forgivable given that it hits the rest of the style qualities on the head (in my opinion). Highly recommended if you get a chance before it kicks!
