i thought this was awesome, the only bottled offering i have seen from these guys and the only beer i have had from them with anything at all different happening with the yeast. until now, they have all been kettle soured or sour mashed, with a clean and lemony lactic profile, and thats about it. here, we have some brett in the mix, albeit a little young, it sure makes the beer interesting and gives it the sort of rustic yeast depth i like in a saison. this one has meyer lemons and pink peppercorns in it, but both of those are quite mild, yet really complimentary to the esters in the yeast, funky and fruity, white winey, summery, delicate for being as interesting as it is, yet also just a little unrefined, less dialed in than it could be, but perhaps its just new and needs some time in the bottle to fully come together. i like the brett, maybe only because its different and i had a low of samey ones in a row from these guys, but it adds a cool farmhouse vibe that really works in this one. nice carbonation too, it totally pops on the palate. overall a tasty bottle of beer that is likely to benefit from a little cellar time and is a distinguished offering in their lineup!

My second favorite of the Blue Owl beers we tried twice while in Austin, the Little Bubbles was even better but that was a one-off keg which combined this saison with another (Dapper Dan pre-fruit).
All their beers are kettle soured using the natural yeasts but some added lacto in a proprietary manner intended to keep the sour from ever 'smelling like feet', kudos to them on all their beers, all nicely soured, varied, and many in cans for less than $10/6 pack.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
