pours a super hazy mellow yellow gold body with an excited white colored foam head that has lower retention and leaves little lacing behind as it settles to a thin halo
aroma is strong yeast funk with fruit and a suggestion of piney grapefruit
taste is funky sour Blue Owl signature taste, followed by an earthy pine and grapefruit whiff. it's mostly tart and funky and soured up Blue Owl jazz, though.
mouthfeel is moderately high carbonation and lighter body that goes fairly smooth with carbo prickles rolling in and out. finishes fairly dry and tart
overall:
they claim "sour session IPA" but it's listed as a Berliner here for some reason. either way, it's hardly an IPA by any sense of the traditional term, and if you're able to pick up hops from beneath the heavy soured tartness that has become the Blue Owl standard, then cheers to you. this reviewer, however, got the sense of hops in trust only - I trust hops were there, but truly this was another soured up tart Blue Owl jam 100% with a suggestion of grapefruit in the mix. this one had more of a non-distinct sourness to it, with very little deviation or character shading one way or another, whereas with other entries from the brewery, I've been able to pick up both bold and subtle notes outside of the standard tartness of the breweries stylings. bottom line: it's an IPA in name only, and not a very notable brew otherwise. just super sour without a particular intention, which is very uncharacteristic for the brewery in my experience.
