Northern Monk Brew Co. "As One"
4,50€ / 25cl on tap @ Ølgod, Barcelona on 26 November 2022
Notes: We have brought together a small team to celebrate the country's culinary culture and raise funds to support those impacted by the war. Working with celebrated London based Ukrainian chef Olia Hercules we put together a recipe for this plum & buckwheat Baltic porter. The can is adorned with the beautiful artwork of Nastya Malkina and 100% of the profits of this beer are donated to Action Against Hunger to support their work in Ukraine.
Look: An opaque black body rests gently beneath a thin cap of light tan foam. Limited head retention and lacing (perhaps due to the servers pour or a dirty bar glass).
Smell: Dark chocolate, coffee beans, and dark fruit.
Taste: The dark chocolate, coffee, and dark fruit follow with additional notes of apple and pear, caramel, some nuttiness, and a touch of grassiness. A moderate bitterness keeps it balanced and it finishes mainly dry with some lingering bready, nutty, and caramelish malt.
Feel: Medium bodied and smooth with a fine-bubbled, moderate carbonation.
Overall: This is a pleasant enough fruited porter but it doesn't have the strength, maltiness, or richness of character to be labeled as a "Baltic Porter".

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
