Fair State The Duke Of Bakesfordshire Imperial Stout, 12% ABV. Pours black with a one finger brown head. Nose is pecans and maple, taste is quite sweet though not cloying, nuts, almost no bitterness. Excellent mouthfeel, overall excellent.

Pours thick dark mahogany color with a tan head. predominant smells of coffee ,chocolate ,roasted malts. Taste was more of the smell with lots of malts and chocolate missing was the maple and pecan. Mouth feel sweet and roasty. While this stout tasted very good i did not pick up the pecan and maple, still thought it was an fine Stout.

L: Bright dark brown under a 1" dark tan cap with good retention.
S: Initially smells like a pecan pie as maple, pecan, and dark malt aromas rise from the glass.
T: Big chocolate malt flavors lead followed by pecan and maple. A moderate bitterness brings the three flavors into balance in the finish.
F: creamy, chewy body with moderate minus carbonation.
O: A very rich and luscious dessert beer.

Pours a very dark coffee-like brown. It has a pleasant slight roasted smell but the scent is overall very subtle. Flavor-wise it is a bit sweet and clearly boozy. Drinking it you can tell it's a 12% beer. As an imperial stout it isn't bad, but the added sweetness doesn't accomplish the "pecan pie-like flavor" it sets out to accomplish as to me it lacks the nuttiness that should complement the sweetness allowing the sweet bozziness to slightly overwhelm.

this should be better than it is. i sure love fair state, and while i may not have had anything like this from them in the past, it definitely is kind of a miss, at least in the sense that i dont think it accomplishes the stated pecan pie mission. it looks enormous, sticky, viscous, leggy, huge, and it smells like that too, tons of caramel, sweet as can be, molasses, wet tobacco, the maple makes itself known, and some vanilla there too, but there is ton of soy sauce to it, some oxidation, a weird bitter element that doesnt seem grain or hop derived to me, and something weird about the fermentation that doesnt quite work, its just not as refined and dialed in as we have all gotten used to from these guys. i like all the body, but there really is a persistent soy character to it that doesnt belong here, and i dont hardly taste the nuts at all, maybe a little toasted richness from them, but the flavor never really translates like i suspect it might in a somewhat smaller beer. the vanilla is there, not overdone, and the maple ends up more as generic sweetness than flavorful with all the dark grain weight in here. boozy and sticky, it didnt quite get me there, and i really wanted to like it. still, fun to try, and to share with a couple of new beer friends. you can never have too may of those!

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a thin brown head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of mild dark toasted malt, maple and lightly nutty; profile smells like a foreign stout. Flavor is dark toasted malt with slight char, caramel, pecan, maple and a hint of vanilla, slightly sweet. Medium bodied with light creaminess. They got damn close to pecan pie here, except the light malt char makes it appear as if the pie got a little bit of singeing on the crust. And that's not a bad thing because the char gives the malt some character and perhaps makes this closer to an authentic pie. Flavors are well balanced and and the sweetness is mild. This is pretty nice and I'm a bit surprised at some of the reviews here. Perhaps there is some variability in the batches. This one is fine; I like this quite a bit. I guess Fair State may show up in our market and this will motivate me to try some of their other beers.

Thought I missed this one while I was struggling with the creeping crud last week, but found a can in an out-of-the-way local. Sixteen ounces.
The dark pour has a nose that’s very sweet, with a faint roast, & no sign of the alleged adjuncts.
The Duke of Bakesfordshire… well, perhaps a viscount? This reminds me of Newcastle Nut Brown ale that’s been taking steroids for most of its natural life. Big nutty nuts up front, along with a tons of sweet malt & sharp roast. There might be a touch of vanilla, but it also might be the power of suggestion. Nice & thick, & the tall can is fine with me.
A very nice stout, but one can’t help but be feel saddened by missing the enema that would have been vanilla & maple syrup, two of my favorite things. Honesty in advertising knocks this down a bit; good beer.

Not what it says it is, this is clearly a great example of a russian imperial stout, tons of roastyness and booze. Not picking out much else though, wheres the pecans/maple/vanilla?? Maybe those flavors/aromas more noticable on tap. The worst thing about this was the price, $10 for a pint can!!
