Through the Fog sports a cool label. Heavy white textured paper with a cool black and white sketch of some fog, a cabin, etc. Nice initial presentation. The beer itself ain't so bad either. The body is deep golden coming across as tarnished brass in the tulip. A soft haze runs througout the body which adds some glow when backlit. The foam is nice. It's not of the meringue-like Belgian-esque variety but it's pure white, frothy, and shows impressive staying power. Good start.
The Galaxy addition makes for an interesting nose on a saison. Let's get started with the pale malt base. It comes along with sugar cookies, graham cracker and a whisper of candi sugar. There's a welcomed mustiness surrounding the whole along with some juicy Bazooka Joe thanks to the yeast strain used. The Galazy hopping brings about a veritable fruit basket that integrates well with the malt base. Peach rings and spicy guava are most noticeable but grapefruit rind and pineapple are also present. A touch of booze runs the backend adding a spicy bite.
The nose was a nice introduction while the flavor backs it up, but also throws in some twists. There's a whisper of that graham cracker sweetness but the character leans toward sugar cookie and just husked grains. A bready linger remains on the backend. The bubblegum isn't as juicy in the flavor but that mustiness is still present. Peach rings combine with grapefruit rind and a smattering of tropical fruits, guava being most prominent of that bunch. Again, alcohol fumes bring some peppery heat on the finish. This is good. Nice complexity.
The body sits with a little weight off the bat but the carbonation quickly catches up to get this guy moving. Those bubbles make for a weight a tick or two below moderate. There's a sturdy bitterness off the bat that continues to grow with each successive sip. All those hop oils aid in drying out the finish which accentuates that bitter that manages to creep into every nook & cranny in your taster hole. While it's a little flaccid, which would ding the points initially, the dryness and bitterness make up for it. Highly drinkable.
This is a finely made beverage from the fine folks at Werk Force. A nice saison base with that lovely addition of Galaxy. A solid, lingering bitterness and an exceptionally dry finish make this beer an easy one to put away. The esters are just right and that Galaxy hopping adds both complexity and uniqueness. I would buy this one again or drink a lot of it on tap. Either/or.
