A collaboration with Old Irving Brewing.
This stout is for the end of winter... and I had it in almost the middle of summer. But life has pleasant surprises.
And this stout is one of them.
For Looks, I still have issues with blonde stouts; some hybrids are hard to get used to. But for Smells, this is complex. The brewer lists some pretty exotic stuff like Madagascar vanilla and Ceylon Cinnamon and Cacao nibs and orange peel and milk sugar. They are all there, it seems, and play nice together. Tastes follow closely as this is an integrated stout. It finishes with a healthy tang... which changes the affect a bit.
I go thru Plainfield when I go to visit farmland in neighboring Kendall County that I inherited with my siblings. So I suppose I have roots of sorts. More to my point, I was acquaintances with Plainfield's Village Planner via my new urbanist connections. And since Werk Force started six years ago when he still worked for the Village, I'm betting he permitted this craft taproom. This is a good move for a small downtown struggling to build its downtown amidst ex-urban sprawl. And I certainly hope Werk Force makes it through this Covid disaster made worse by our idiot President. Since Werk Force sports an interesting Menu, I will visit next time I pass through town.
