This barleywine is inspired by a praline layer cake (drool...) We took an English-style barleywine and added vanilla, pecans, and brown sugar. The result is sweet, balanced, and delicious!

Im sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle poured into a stemless tulip. Beer was purchased as part of bottle society orders and has been in my cellar since purchase.
THe beer pours a clear rich mahogany color with a frothy khaki colored head of about 3 cm. This foam quickly fades to a thin edge layer in my glass, and there is some scattered lacing when I swirl the glass.
Aroma is sweet and malty with toffee, brown sugar, nutty pecans and something Im smelling as maple syrup. There isnt any added, and maybe its just a combo of the additives. No hop character and its not boozy or fusol at all. Smells pretty much like what I expected based on the label and additives.
First sip reveals a medium body with fairly smooth texture and fine, gentle carbonation. Its not a very sticky barleywine and the swallow actually is thinner feel, probably due to the brown sugar addition and fermenting. The beer actually drinks pretty easy and my glass empties quickly.
Flavor is more of the nose advertisements with sweet malt dominant, brown sugar, vanilla , and again I get some maple notes. The pecan nuttiness is less prevelant here than on the nose. I also do get some black peppery bite on the finish, but no accompanying warming booze. Never any hop note either. I could see this being a bit to cloyingly sweet for some and it is in that realm for sure, but I do enjoy it and Im glad to have tried this beer.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours dark brown with minimal head. The nose is awesome. Vanilla, brown sugar, toffee pudding, pecans, granola, and Granny Smith apples.
The taste is really interesting. A great mix of flavors. Vanilla, graham cracker, maple, a touch of cinnamon, toffee, pudding, and marmalade.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied and the aftertaste is pecans and caramel.

In tap at Windsor Browns in Anaheim, CA.
Omg this one smells divine. Definitely a fortified approach to a barleywine. The nose has a generous and sweet presentation of pecan and brown sugar with a smooth vanilla note in tow.
Wow, yes she is sweet but not cloyingly so. But definitely a chewy dessert drink.
