473 mL can from the LCBO; coded May 12 2023 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a turbid marmalade orange-yellow colour, with more than an inch of fluffy, foamy white head gathering atop. It lasts for the better part of five minutes, leaving minimal lace as it drops down to a frothy collar and cap - looks good so far. Orange & grapefruit juiciness on the nose, with lesser notes of canned pineapple and lime zest.
Not particularly beer-like, but the juiciness comes off as genuine - certainly appealing enough to get the job done in warm, humid weather such as this. Orange and pineapple are what stand out initially, but the grapefruit does get going later on; lemonade sweetness and more pineapple on the back end, with hints of lime-ade and bitter grapefruit carrying on into a sweet, juicy aftertaste. Light-medium body with a fluffy, juicy mouthfeel and relatively light carbonation. Easy to drink, and not tiresome to do so.
Final Grade: 3.64, a B grade. Woodhouse's Citrus Radler grew on me over the course of the glass: at first, I resented the fact that it barely resembles a beer, but its concentrate-derived fruit flavours are honestly not bad. The pineapple in particular is what ties things together, I think, adding a sugary/juicy sweetness that the citrus ingredients wouldn't have supplied otherwise. I would buy this again for sure, but rest assured it's a different experience from that of a traditional radler, à la Stiegl.
