My second from Pike. (The first was 11 years ago, a Tripel they still brew; maybe they improved the yeast as I suggested.)

Anyhow, Ol' Crimson is a decent crushable American lager. It Looks only slightly better than the average of its competitors in style. Smells are average , sweet malt and not much else. However it seems balanced as hops enter early palate gradually and by the finish are almost semi-dry. Largely light, but could be close to medium-mouthed. I drank this with a simple dinner of sweet potatoes and a veggie burger. Did its job to wash it all down.

I've not written a micro-review for Pike. For probably 15 years old, they have grown well their restaurant business to a fish-house and gastropub-burger joint. They have a limited active portfolio, which is a smart trend; particularly when you have to compete in a crowded market like Seattle. Pike seems community-oriented and tries to source locally. And Ol' Crimson helps fund students at WSU. So for all that, Pike gets points and good Overall Hugs.

I enjoyed a can of this. It's a basic but well made American lager that in part supports WSU athletics and education. It's less bitter than Coug fans were about losing the Holiday Bowl game after being dumped by their American football coach and quarterback just before said game. It won't set the world on fire, but it is an easy to like, unpretentious, easy drinker for fans who support the underdog rather than the big money-seeking brand.

Poured from a 12 ounce undated can into a perfect pint.

Look- Straw, slight haze, creamy white head, below average lacing, average head retention.

Smell- Grainy, grassy, medium strength of scent.

Taste- Grainy, mildly sweet, slightly nutty, medium strength of flavor.

Feel- Between thin and medium body, average carbonation, crisp, mildly dry finish.

Overall- Straw in color with slight haze and below average lacing and average head retention. Nose was wet grain and grass with medium strength. Flavor was grainy with some slight sweetness and nuttiness. Feel was toward the thin end of the spectrum with a nice crispness and a mildly dry finish. Overall this beer was very simple and provided a below average drinking experience.
