We took our Mongo Barleywine and aged it in Brandy Barrels for almost a year. The result, a malt forward ale with intense fruits, caramel, and toffee notes.

750 mL bottle. Deep amber. Small khaki head. Smells of intense alcohol. Sweet and sharp alcohol. Tastes of brandy and brown sugar. More brandy. Heavy and sweet. Slow to drink. Smells atrocious. But I admit that while it tastes one dimensional, it's a nice flavor.

Dark brown with a murky look. Virtually no head. Smells like caramel and a little bit of sweetness from dried fruit. lots of caramel and dark dried fruit. The brandy barrel is for sure evident with more sweetness than a bourbon/whiskey barrel. Some slight hints of chocolate. Smooth and good thickness with a long after taste that gets better with time. A very good barleywine on par with Straight Jacket.
