Formerly Saison De Blanc and Chapter VII: In The Halls Of The Sunken City

The fruity and light spiciness of the beer blends delicately with the grassy herbal characters of the sauvignon blanc grapes, leading to a wonderfully complex and exuberant beer.

Appearance: Pours a deep, but clear light golden color with a billowing, foamy, white head. SRM of 12. (4.00)

Aroma: Strong aromas of grape juice, a little white wine, with some citrus and bready notes. A little bit of banana and bread in the back. (4.00)

Flavor: Moderate aromas of sparkling grapejuice, white wine. A metallic note with some Belgian esters and funk. Grape and orange citrus with a funk. Some scone on the back end. Finishes neither too dry nor too sweet. (4.00)

Feel: Light bodied as expected. Great carbonation to make it crisp, yet it's heavy enough to provide a sweetness on the back end. (4.00)

Overall: It's a great saison. A little metallic notes which I didn't like, but otherwise really great and complete flavors. The grape notes are unique. It's very similar to Off Color's Apex Predator, but this one has more of a grape juice and metallic flavor and less stonefruit, pear, and citrus. It's more robust and sweet. It has less of a subtle complex juicyfruit flavor profile. Yet, this Sunken City is definitely a good saison. (Final Rating: 4.00)

16 oz can canned 11/15/23 into a large snifter.
L: SRM 4 Pours 98% clear golden tawny caramel with a fizzy eggshell white head that immediately recedes to thin edge foam, steady fine carbo bubbles, no lacing.
S: Gently floral & vinous, fruit hints, white wine, hay, distant dry leather.
T: Pale malts, lightly sweet fruit mix, citrus zest, there is resin that lingers forever it seems but it is never overpowering. It is moderately full-flavored and has a recognizable bready note towards the zesty finish.
F: Crisp, brisk, fast-moving medium-bodied mouthfeel with an alluring and broad middle that finishes medium-fast and quite dry. Dry beyond the lingering tastes. Becomes softer with warming yet remains fairly brisk.
O: An elegant Saison with an ardent and long linger. Fruity with gently sweet grape & citrus notes and dry. No trace of alcohol. It is in fact slightly bold overall and it drinks quite well. It is excellent in its style.

Can at The Sheridan Room, Minneapolis, MN

A: The beer is hazy yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a short white head.
S: Light to moderate aromas of Belgian yeast are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has lots of flavors of Belgian yeast but isn't really spicy.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This saison isn't as spicy compared to other beers in the style, but has nice flavors of Belgian yeast.

L: This beer poured a clear yellow-gold color, with a very light head that dissipated quickly.
S: Crackery, with very subtle wine hints. And I mean VERY subtle. Other notes included slight peppery-ness and very slight malty aroma.
T: The taste was a crisp, crackery malt. Very lightly toasted with, again, very very subtle hints of grape, and white wine. The taste was edging more toward lager than I expected it to be.
F: Very light and airy on the feel, with a sharp, crisp carbonation bite to it.
O: While I'm not entirely ready to call this beer a Saison (I feel it more resembles a lager), the term Saison stays pretty loose and inclusive as it does include the slightest hint of white wine. Don't get me wrong, this beer is very refreshing, and I wish it were summer time so I had an excuse to crush a couple in a row. Good stuff to Insight, keep it up.
Cheers,
-B

Cool mix since it has sauvignon blanc grapes. It's pretty good. It grows on you the more you drink it.

A good, solid beer for enjoying a nice sunset. Not sure if you want wine or a beer? This hits the spot. Well done!

Had this on tap at the Bulldog in Lowertown. The beer had a copper appearance wit no head. The aromas included a slight, white wine smell, but it was generally airy. The flavors were more vocal with that white wine grape flavor while the mouthfeel was somewhat thick, even a little syrupy. Overall, really enjoyed the flavor complexity.
