this was served to me in a pint glass, which i think is particularly unflattering for a saison type, and also more beer than i need for one pushing 8% abv, but i like the beer quite well. its pretty in color, bright pink to violet from the fruit, definitely they were not shy with it. there isnt much life though, i like more head and bubbles in the style. sells like a ton of preserved blackberries, nice to get this much of that fruit in here, i know its a harder fruit to get to come through, so nice job there. they are backed off just a little in the taste, but still quite prominent. the yeast isnt anything special, more belgian than farmy or rustic, and a little sharp and winey in the middle. white grape notes in it, a little hay and grassy herbal thing, short of spicy, but not all that interesting. i dont get a lot of wheat malt either, more juicy than grainy, but still beery enough i guess. what kills it is the mouthfeel, this could be really good if it was drier and effervescent, but its near flat and that really doesnt help it. i still think its a worthy beer though, nice use of the fruit and a little something different overall.
