Pours golden amber (SRM 4-6). Haziness is disrupted by rapid bullets of carbonation, building a two inch, foamy white head that lasts several minutes. No lacing is left on a Stiegl Stange.
The aroma is a mix of dirty socks and brine. Lime is quite present with a background of leather and spices.
Tartness is significantly greater than expected from this style. Lime dominates, carrying long through the finish. Brine builds in the finish. There is also some sourdough. Warmth amplifies the brine, which compliments the sweet lime. Each adds balance to the other.
The body is thin and highly carbonated, followed by late, very dry characteristics. Alcohol is only a hint, while the texture is oily.
I would consider this an extreme Gose given the intensity of the tartness, brininess and sweetness. I enjoyed it one week before the brewery closed, and later from a growler. It worked well in both instances. I imagine it would be better with a meal rather than while reading on a cool, wet, autumn day.
