Good beer, but the coconut really dominates. Doesn’t taste much like an ipa.

Poured from a 16 oz. can into a chalice.
Appearance: Pours a hazy golden orange. Moderate amount of bubbles and a big white head that settles into a thin creamy layer.
Smell: A juicy and somewhat sweet aroma with a scent of citrus, pine, and coconut. Upfront citrus hop scent of grapefruit, orange peel, tangerine, and lemon with some pineapple. Earthy hop scent of pine. Sweet hints of coconut and vanilla with a little lactose. Malt hints of grains, caramel, and cracker. A pretty solid aroma.
Taste: Like it smells, a juicy and fairly sweet hop driven taste with notes of citrus, pine, and coconut. Juicy upfront taste of citrus hops with notes of grapefruit, orange peel, lemon, and tangerine along with pineapple. Earthy hop notes of pine and grass. Sweet undertones of coconut, vanilla, and lactose. Malt notes of caramel, grains, and cracker. A solid taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy, creamy, and smooth.
Overall: A pretty nice twist on an IPA. Good juicy hop flavor with some light coconut sweetness that comes out more with warming.

L-Bright laser lemon crayola colored....hazy....light head..
S-Malibu rum is the impression from the coconut and vanilla....lemons and citrus from the hops..
T-Pineapple juice, tangerines, lemons....very faint coconut which is barely distinguishable.
F-A little acidic...weird texture ....medium bodied....
O-I expected more coconut in a "Coconut Killer IPA".

picked up as a random single in my travels, having never heard of the brewery and being a big coconut guy, i was excited to drink this one fresh. how though, does anyone in their right mind get off calling this an ipa?! i mean, its not even close. flavored adjunct cream ale with a dry hop maybe, but ipa is a leap i am not willing to take with drekker brewing company here, whomever they are... i just dont buy this in that context. that said, the hazy burnt golden liquid is redeemable on a number of levels, not least of which is the desserty nature the adjuncts contribute above both the malt and the hops. tons of vanilla, maybe at the detriment of a lightly toasted coconut sweetness, but its almost brownie batter textured for a quick second, cocoa all over, pushed on by the vanilla and maybe a weirdly long boil for what it is, or some perverted synergy with the hops, but it just all comes together momentarily in a really rad way. notes of bisquick, sunscreen, and powdered chocolate milk, this has a concentrated artificiality to the flavor that cant jive with personally, even if these things jive together a little bit. the hops are aromatic only, and are overtaken by forced vanilla in the flavor. lactose is overdone too, and this becomes messy by the latter stages. lactose isnt needed, and vanilla needs toned down while coconut needs turned up. rubbery feeling, dry and chalky gummy, stiff. i think its a cool idea, but the execution is on the edge of a gimmick, and i am less than fully on board with this one. it just isnt an ipa in any sense of it, although i like the beer in a number of ways...
