14 June 2020 - Beer #119

Corona Day #94

Price: $16.99 at Milk & Hops Chelsea in Manhattan

Appearance: 4 - a pretty, translucent pink with basically no head. Nice color.

Nose: 4 - gonna be very sour. Mild plum.

Taste: 5 - this is really tasty. Extremely sour and mildly fruity. Really nailed the sourness.

Mouth: 5 - a bit thick with zillions of tiny bubbles. Well played.

Overall: 5 - very pleased with this one. It's a collab with Hudson Valley, which is one of my favorite breweries. Maybe those guys should make straight up sours and not sour IPAs. That would be insanity.

Cheers!

This is my second time with this beer in the last couple weeks. I didn’t review it before, so I’m taking advantage of this virtual share to get my thoughts down. I remember loving it and rated it a 4.4 on Untappd.

Threes Brewing and Hudson Valley Brewery - A Supposedly Fun Thing: Pluot. Saison aged in oak with pluots. 6%.

Look: A beautiful beer. Translucent and slightly murky with a color of the purple/reddish/pink flesh of a plum. Pale pink colored head that settles away pretty quickly, leaving a thin ring of foam around the edge of the glass as I drink it. No lacing and no visible carbonation.

Smell: The aroma is enticing. Juicy plum. Powdery, floral, and a bit musty. Pink starburst. Hints of lemon juice and white vinegar.

Taste: It’s starts out with the flesh of tart plum and Granny Smith Apple. It gets a little tannic mid palate with plum and Granny Smith apple skin. Lemon juice acidity.

Feel: Medium level of carbonation. Moderate acidity with a long and dry finish.

Overall: I love this beer. It’s not overly acidic and the fruit really shines. It’s neither estery nor spicy. The yeast shows with powdery, floral and musty notes. If you gave this to me and asked me for the style I wouldn’t say Saison. I’d probably say American Wild Ale with fruit or a Belgian-style sour beer with fruit. I’m really enjoying it and rating it that way.
