473 mL can from the LCBO; coded Feb 16 2022 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a clear pale golden colour, producing nearly two fingers of loose, soapy white head that fizzles off within a minute or two. I leaves behind an impressive swath of sticky, messy lace as it recedes, with a tight collar and filmy cap also remaining - looks like a light lager at first glance, but one sniff should inform you of what you're in for. Smells like straight-up fruit punch - cherries, apples, pineapple, strawberry, that sort of thing, with plenty of sugary "fruit drink" sweetness.
I don't mind this. I'm tasting pineapple and lots of sugar, with very faint suggestions of grainy malt underneath; hints of cherry flavour towards the finish, with more pineapple and hints of apple in the aftertaste. Light in body, with moderate carbonation that lends a little bit of crispness to this brew's smooth, somewhat juicy mouthfeel. Sweet, but not quite cloying, with good drinkability - I could feasibly drink a couple of these in a row, but why would I want to?
Final Grade: 3.28, a C+. I'm not a big fan of fruit punch, but Moosehead's Tropical Punch Neon Radler is more tolerable than most of the fruit punch-themed beers I've tried over the years. Not at all beer-like, but I can let that slide with a radler - though truthfully, I would much rather be drinking a traditional grapefruit or lemon radler, or maybe a pineapple or raspberry beer. As always, I suppose it comes down to personal tastes - if you've got a high tolerance for sugar and a hankering for Hawaiian Punch, you might enjoy this far more than I did.
