It's been a year now since I visited The Answer and had this on tap and bought home a can, along with 2 other cans of their high-test Imperial stouts. The taste of this is still mighty vivid in my mind's palate. Thick and rich in viscosity with an oily, fleeting foam atop its used molasses-y, motor oil deep brown liquid. I didn't get much of the bourbon character poking through the barrage of its namesake cakeiness. Among the 3 (Papa Kahuna and KuTo, the others), this one packed all of the candy madness that its cousins were teasing at. If one has the opportunity to try their brand of behemoth stout, this might be the best option. Hope to visit there again or at least have another crack at the beer. Definitely designed for sharing. Will do 4.5’s across the board this time, as I got a sample sent to me that had been poured on draft. Will wait to adjust until I’ve had fresh. Held up so well, though. Really damn good.

L: Had this beer on-tap at The Answer Brewpub, poured into a taster. Had a deep, dark brown / black color and a thick, opaque consistency. There was a quarter inch of foamy, tan-colored head that quickly dissipated. Excellent lacing.
S: A sweet and enticing aroma of chocolate, malt, coconut, and vanilla beans.
T: Tasted of a small amount of malt (a subtle presence), a hint of vanilla beans ( kind of fleeting), a ton of rich chocolate (the dominant force here), and some coconut as well. A rich, complex, and powerful flavor. At first it seems like it will be a one note beer, but the other ingredients gradually shine through. Tasty stuff.
F: An average amount of carbonation with a super smooth finish. Full-bodied.
O: This is a thoroughly enjoyable stout. Drinkable.

Pours a very nice dark color with a slight head and lacing
Aroma has toasted coconut, cacao nibs and vanilla bean hints
The taste follows the nose with a very generous toasted coconut, cocoa nibs and vanilla bean flavor
A medium bodied decently carbonated beer
A great Imperial Stout

From tasting notes 11/09/18
Had on-tap at The Answer Brewpub in Richmond, VA
Appearance - Served up 10oz into a stemless, black in color with a thin layer of suds on top. Fair lacing with spotting and broken lines.
Smell - Chocolate, fudgy aroma with a good amount of coconut accompanying it.
Taste - Follows the nose. Fudgy chocolate with a nice coconut kick. Finish is much the same with a hint of dark chocolate. Sweet, but doesn't become cloying.
Mouthfeel - Full bodied with fair carbonation. Smooth and creamy texture. Nice drinker.
Overall - Damn good German chocolate style stout. Reminds a bit of the New Glory Batter Up. While I prefer the latter's flavor, the body on this one is much thicker and more fitting.

The look has a nice chocolate and coffee brown with a nice and syrup like appearance.
The smell is good. It has a strong coconut upfront with some moderate caramel and a light cocoa in the finish.
The taste is really frigging good. A good mix of the caramel and coconut upfront buoyed by a decent cocoa note. It definitely strongly resembles a German chocolate cake.
The feel is really good. It has a nice heavy body and a thick and smooth feel.
Overtime, delicious and definitely strongly resembles a German chocolate stout.

Bottom line - liquid German chocolate cake in a glass. Very sweet and syrupy - not sure I could drink glass but a shared 5oz taster glass is pure heaven. Only going to rate one or two but sampling a number of killer stouts here each with a unique profile. The Answers high ABV stouts are absolutely world class. Among if not the best I have ever had.
