An imperial version of our Coffee Cup brand Double Coffee Stout. Rich flavors of tiramisu, chocolate mousse and cacao are attributed to specialty roasted malts. Cold brewed coffee from Kru Coffee Roasters introduces nuances of blackberry and walnut.

Canned 12/7/22. Drank 3/15/25.
Pour is jet black with a finger of very fuzzy, cola like brown foam. Fades very quickly to almost nothing
Nose is a big wave of coffee upfront, followed by roasted malts, and chocolate
Taste is a huge wave of coffee. Love it. Hints of chocolate, vanilla, marshmallow, but again coffee is the star of the show.
Full, creamy body but not too sweet.

Overall an excellent beer that I wish I had ready access to! this was a Tavour beer a few years ago. Love it.

Revisiting on a can that is ~ 4 months old and this is such an awesome beer

Poured from 16oz can into a dimpled mug.

Appearance: entirely black hue with two fingers of frothy, pillowy brown foam that has decent retention but doesn’t leave much lacing on the glass. A beautiful color on the body and head, though.

Smell: sweet, of course, and big on the coffee aroma with nice undertones of chocolate. There’s a nice kind of caramel/toffee character underneath as well; I like the complexity. Some coffee beers can develop this distinct vegetal, green-smelling aroma to me, but this one mostly avoids that.

Taste: sweetness and coffee; there’s some caramel and toffee and kind of a “very dark molasses bread” kind of character here. Sweeter than I normally like, but I think the coffee is executed well here. It’s maybe a bit boozy, but I wouldn’t have guessed 14% from the flavor alone.

Mouthfeel: rich body with a moderate carbonation, and, although the creaminess is good, I’m surprised it’s not better.

Overall: this is the category I usually use as a proxy for “drinkability” … of course, a 14% sweet-as-heck stout is not gonna score high in that area. But overall this is a tasty dessert beer, and I will enjoy sipping away at it quite a lot.

Getting through the early stages of winter, one cup just won't be enough and Common Roots knows it. Scaling up their standard Coffee Cup stout, this double version is needed for a little extra pick-me-up and put-me-down.

Jet black and rising up with a generous mocha froth, a foamy espresso look is taking place. As the robust scent of strong coffee mingles with caramel sweetness, vanilla maltiness and alcohol spice, the scent is bold with cocoa and spiced toffee as well. Beautifully scorched sweetness layers on the tongue as the early palate is chocked full of burnt sweet cream, caramel, toffee and malted milk chocolate.

Sweetness subsiding as the stout washes the middle palate, the more robust aspects of taste pull ahead with espresso, smoky cocoa, roasted walnut, a hint of earth and wonderfully burnt cream give the stout a more coffee & cream influence. Spicy and balancing bitterness closes out the taste as hints of kahlua generate a pleasant warmth in the beer's waning tastes.

Full bodied, creamy and roasty, Double Cup finishes pleasantly dense and with a long roasty-sweet aftertaste that's clearly meant as an after inner coffee replacement and a nightcap worthy of great memories made and even better company.

Absolutely gorgeous pour. Black body, rich thick creamy brown head that just sits there majestically. Clingy too.

Smell is light, pleasant.

Extremely smooth taste. No hint of very high ABV. Light notes of cacao.

Very very good beer. Not enough depth to be top notch, but close.

Canned 12/7/22. Poured at 56°. Black with ruby edges; dark brown head; brief cap retention leaves an island of micro dots and solid minus ring; some soapy lace, but mostly spots; medium legs on swirl. Roast coffee and chocolate nose. Bittersweet dark chocolate and coffee; sweet berries middle; nutty coffee backend; cacao finish. Medium body, silky feel; alcohol burn on tip of tongue; warmth from 14% abv; light carbonation. Overall, pleasant bitter roast malt linger; alcohol well hidden alcohol-wise; drinks light for abv; boozy without tasting boozy; a solid imperial coffee stout.

Pours thick black with a small bronze colored head. Aroma is lightly coffee, dark malt and chocolate. Taste is dominated by a mild coffee profile, with some chocolate notes at the end. The mouthfeel is moderate, lighter than expected for an imperial stout, and with little carbonation. A dry, dark chocolate taste is faintly detectable as well. Overall, not bad.

Thanks Danny! Stamped GIMME 2 CUPS 01/07/22
Deep, almost black liquid capped by a dense mocha colored head.
Wow, the nose starts off with a firm, lush, deep espresso with creamy bitter chocolate.
Flavor goes even further. This is profoundly lovely. The riches are lush and deep, but never cloying. The roast is round, complex, and rolls around with the bitter notes that seem to blossom from the chocolate at times, while at other times it comes from the coffee. So well constructed.
Chewy enough, mildly creamy, and the finish reins in the sweet with a mild bitterness. No ABV heat.
Overall, sublime.

Coal-black body, opaque; thin, light khaki colored head. Rich dark chocolate nose with a touch of coffee in the background. Incredibly well-balanced mixture of dark, bitter chocolate and dark roast coffee; sublime bitter undercurrent coursing through the sweetness. Heavy body; very silky and slippery; big residual sugar presence offset with a subtle dryness.

I love a beer with richness and subtly that gently unveils an incredible depth and complexity of character. The 14% ABV is deftly hidden behind the malts and coffee. A fantastic imperial coffee stout.
