Pint can reviewed on 9/15/19
White gold, maybe even straw colored liquid. Opaque haze, bubbly white foam topping.
Looks like a New England Style IPA, smells old school, West coasty.
Charred malted grains and oats but with a honey dash of sweetness. The hops are Piney and sour citric fruits, tangy melons and herbal citrus.
The malt and hops give off a nice earthy and crispy bite at first, but quickly you realize it's all medium bodied, with a gentle smooth middle, then snappy and dry to finish.
The light malty grain flavor impresses me first, snappy wheat, lush oats, crisp and bready taste provides a very nice base for the hops. Then the sour melon, cucumbers, stone fruit, peppery citrus and tropical cannabis style hop flavors take over and saturate the palate. "Experimental" style IPA sure has it's odd and unique aspects.

Pour very pale and cloudy. Smells light and earthy. Tastes like and american ipa heffeweizen hybrid. Light hops mixed with light lemon zest. Crisp and refreshing. Has a nice subtleness to it. A quality brew.

Traded for this a while ago as the date on the bottom of the can read 2/9/17. Only had one beer from Common Roots before and like that, I enjoyed this too - despite how long it took for me to crack open. This was a bright and lively IPA that went down easily and had plenty of flavor and body to it, without any sediment left at the bottom of the liquid once I finished this off!
Good pour to this beer as the liquid was golden, muddled, and topped off with plenty of head - but that was probably due to the age of this more than anything else! Tons of soapy lacing left behind as there was a lot of it although it didn't form any rings aside from the thin one at the top of my glass. Loads of citrus, grass, juice, and dank mango in the understated nose as they all came through in the taste. An underlying sense of nectar, honey, tropical hops, and pine came in as the body contained plenty of bread and a bit of sour, Saison funk in the mix as well. Nicely balanced and not terribly strong, this is what a good American IPA should aspire to be!
Not sure how this was experimental but seeing how many iterations of this beer were up for review on here, this almost felt like the "basic" version of this beer. If that was the case, I'd easily reach for it again given how enjoyable it was and how well it held up over time. Fun stuff that was better than the odd but oddly enjoyable label!

16oz can served in a pint can-shaped glass. No date I can see.
Pours a slightly hazy whitish yellow with a medium to large head and plenty of carbonation. Smell is mostly lemon and citrus.
Taste is lemon and pine bitterness, hint of sweetness, fairly dry. A little too strong on the lemon.
Mouthfeel is very light, dry, effervescent. Overall, good beer.

Pours a very cloudy yellow color with a thin foamy head. Retention is minimal. Lacing is decent. Danky, grassy and lemon aroma. Very grassy and lemon taste. Danky at the end. Light bodied with moderate carbonation.

Bought a can at the Beer Shop in East Longmeadow, MA. The beer has a murky yellow appearance and a pretty, white head. Little grassy with some lemon. Taste is ok with some citrus lemon. Mouthfeel is ok; low carbonation. Overall, it’s ok with a good appearance.

Visually it looks like a pale straw yellow with a big fluffy head resting atop. Aroma wise had subtle touches of citrus fruits and grass. That aroma carries over to the flavor profile: citrus, grass, astringency: all subtle. Not quite sure what they were experimenting with on this one to make it an "experimental" ipa but overall it was quite lackluster. Loved the can, would pass on the contents.

16oz can from the overpriced store in Grand Central. Drank from can.
Variable hop beer (by batch). This one is Columbus and something like Galaxy and Mosaic.
Appearance: N/A. Can looks nice. Default 4.5 for my negligence.
Smell: Peachy tropical fruit hops. Fragrant and inviting. One whiff and I know I was right to take salesperson's advice and get this.
Taste: Big juicy mango hops up front, crisp dry straightforward cereal malt in back. Columbus dank tinged throughout but subtly. Would kill 64oz of this easy.
Mouthfeel: Juicy. Light side of medium bodied. Proper, capable American IPA. i want more dryness and bitterness, but that's preference, not a flaw.
Overall: Yet another example of how damn good beer is these days (and how NY is finally catching up with craft beer generally beyond early standouts like Ithaca and Captain Lawrence sours, Barrier and Peekskill ipas, and old guard like Brooklyn). 10 years ago I would never drop average to premium money on an IPA I'd never heard of. Nowadays, the salesperson says "They're new, they're good," and thats that.
Great ipa. Well constructed all around, 6.5% a perfect ABV for this flavor and format. You get everything you wanted with this beer.
I'd say this puts Common Roots on my radar, and it kind of does. I'll remember the skill and satisfaction of this beer. But really, it just makes me think that my snobbery of yesteryear has been surpassed, and now you can get truly excellent beer anywhere. I'm glad.

pours out a nice golden straw color, almost clear with a white head. on aroma and palate there is nice citric notes including orange, grapefruit, mellow lemon, as well as sweet bready and honey malts, green minty note, hint of bubblegum and tropical notes such as peach and mango. finishes with some earthy and slightly spicy pine notes. overall very well balanced and clean.
