12oz can with no date. Opened 11-21-21.
1/4" off white head with short retention. Ends up as a ring.
Amber-brown (raw honey) with limited visibility. Some spotty lacing.
Fruit, unfiltered apple cider, spice, and yeast in the aroma.
Tart apple and fruit skin plus powdery yeast and earthy spice.
Medium body with a round mouthfeel and a mid-length tart, then dry finish.
Good.

L-90% Opaque dark brownish amber, 1F light tan head fades fast with light lace.

N-Yeast, light vinegar sourness, ry flour

T- Some very light coriander and cloves, sourdough rye bread crust, apple cider fermentation notes. No bubblegum or banana but hints of Belgian ale.

M- Medium feel , low carbonation. Slick and a bit thick on the end

O- Not bad, not a repeat buy. Vinegar like version of a Belgian.

Interesting idea, flawed execution and way off target.

Tawny brown, no head when poured. Smell is muted, though I just returned from the store in winter weather. Taste is malty with a hint of tomato or vegetal undertones - not enough to be offensive.

Hops presence is muted. Rye presence is there.

No saison funk - I suspect they are not using a traditional saison yeast.

Finish is malty and flat. Saison is imminently drinkable, with a drier finish.

The big downfall here - low carbonation. I had their ESB last night and this pours and feels about the same. Saison (and other Belgium beers) is traditional high to very high carbonation, which is why many of them come in thick bomber bottles with champagne corking. The carbonation on this is way too low - coca cola is more lively.

I'll finish the six pack, but do not recommend.

Clear golden amber with piles of off-white foam in the chalice. Pleasant sudsy mouthfeel. Faintly sourish, grainy taste.

This is definitely a Saison taste, with the yeast and dry mineral finish. Faintly fruity, a touch of citrus. The rye adds a hint of burnt oatmeal and there's just a bit of funk from the yeast. Light, quite drinkable, a little austere if you're used to the fruitier style. From the six-pack purchased at Mayfair Liquors in Denver.

L: Copper Amber color, with a very small white head that dissipates very quickly. With a few fingers of lacing, quite dark for a saison.

S: A slight subtle fruit, quite a bit of sweet malt, some spiciness from the rye and a little bit of pepper. Smells very sweet for a saison.

T: Fruit, a little lemon, a rye spiciness, some noble hops sneak in, a lot of sweet malt. Quite sweet for a saison.

F: Mouthfeel is a little watery, and lower carbonation.

not a bad beer, definitely a different take on the style, and these guys come with a little hype, they are blowing up and have a nice reputation so far. this is really dark for a saison as we usually see them, its almost brown to mahogany, cherry wood color, clear, and with not much head at all after the rush of the initial pour. the rye is very intense, thank you for that! i mean, this is as rye heavy a beer as i can recall lately, its got so much peppery spice to it, its almost hot on the tongue because of it, but the sweetness of the other malt tames it a bit, balances it back. the yeast is disagreeable to me, its familar, almost french type. but astringent and lacking the funk and tang that the good ones have, its just really one dimensional, and the fact that the beer is almost flat after a few seconds in the glass is a real turn off too. still, the beer tastes pretty good, and is really really unique as they go, so props for that. it needs some tweaks though, a more interesting less fruity yeast, and some carbonation would be a great place to start. i have a can of their ipa in the fridge too that i am keen to crack. i liked that this was weird, and its on its way to being awesome.
