Citrusy and dank. Galaxy and Mosaic hops, with barley from Maine Malt House. Pleasantly hoppy, leading to a nice dry finish.

Pint can - dated 01/03/20 - poured into an IPA glass at 45F.

Pours a beautiful unfiltered translucent honey golden colour, topped with two fingers of creamy, bubbly off-white head with good retention. Leaves sticky lacing as it recedes. Some visible effervescence can be seen.

Nose: You would expect a big dose of caramel malt from a West Coast-style IPA. There's definitely a hint of caramel malt, but there's a lot of lighter pale malt in the mix as well. The until the beer warms and opens, the Mosaic stands out more than the Galaxy, lending clean grassy green notes and minimal pine. There are undercurrents of overripe peach, apricot, and mango as well. Tons of sweet mandarin orange and some lemon as well. A nice balance of boil and late hopping aromas. Once the beer opens up, it absolutely explodes with Galaxy.

Palate: The Galaxy, while subtle in the aroma, absolutely leaps out on the palate, lending heaps of dank, earthy stone fruit. Musty apricot, way overripe mango, and all those typical Galaxy flavours. There is some green, grassy, vegetal Mosaic in the mix as well, giving some fresh brightness to contrast Galaxy's dank flavours, but it definitely plays second fiddle to Galaxy. There is a firm bitterness that comes in quite early. The bitterness is very typical of Galaxy, in the sense that it isn't quite piney or pithy, but rather more astringent, and carried this subtle note of sesame seeds into the finish.

Mouthfeel/Body: The beer is quite light in body, just barely leaning towards medium-light. Effervescence is lively enough. There is something thin about this, and I think I have it figured out. The lack of caramel malt means that there's so sweet malt to lend any stickiness or weight. The lack of dry-hopping means theres nearly no hop resins/oils to cling to the palate. Either of these attributes could potentially result in a fuller body.

Overall: Much like Chlorophyll - the last WCIPA Orono did, Ozone seems to be lacking in an overall sense. In my opinion, some caramel malt would have really helped this beer out. A more aggressive round of hopping could have really helped this beer out. As it stands, it's definitely good, and it's certainly unique, as a Galaxy-centric IPA that isn't quite a New Endland IPA, but it feels like a half-hearted attempt to widen the Orono stock. Some more focus and tweaks here and there could have made this very enjoyable. I'd love to see an overall with darker, heavier malt and more serious hopping. A good effort, and a great idea.

16oz undated can.

Pours hazy gold with an inch-plus of dense white. Moderate retention and lacing. Aromatics feature some candied citrus and sweet malt. Shades of orange and pear with crystal malt. Medium bodied with a tacky, almost chewy mouthfeel. Sugar-dusted grapefruit on the palate with a big bitterness and sweet malt. Finishes with a lingering bitterness and a hint of cardboard.

Too sweet, a bit malt-forward and faded without enough hops.

Light orange color with some opaqueness, light lacing. Some tropical hints on the nose. Nice tropical juicy flavor and a great mouthfeel, incredibly smooth. Really nice IPA, very drinkable
