Taste - Lots of grainy flavors, middling bitterness. Some buttery qualities.
Mouthfeel - Smooth and medium mouthfeel. Middling carbonation. Slightly buttery.
Overall -Decent vienna lager, good body with some leafy bits, caramel notes and buttery flavors.

Pours apple juice colour with a reasonable head that disappears very quickly. Very plain on the taste and the smell. Grainy, cereals, a bit of hops, but nothing else unnecessary. Mouthfeel is crisp and light.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Oct 14 2020 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a clear golden-amber hue, sporting one centimetre of foamy white head that fizzles away within a minute or two. A thin collar is the only survivor, with no cap or lace to speak of; looks like a typical amber lager to me. Rather subtle on the nose - grainy malts, toasted bread and lightly caramelized sugars, with hints of floral hops and grassy hay.
Clean flavours, not bad at all - caramelized malts, bready sweetness and toasted grains comprise the bulk of the flavour profile. Hints of nuttiness and honey are joined by a touch of grassy noble hop bitterness near the finish; this doesn't last for long, as the sip concludes with bready malts and light caramel dissipating into a gently sweet aftertaste. Light in body, with moderately low carbonation that weakly agitates the surface of the tongue; feels very smooth and a little slick on the palate. Quite good for what it is.
Final Grade: 3.75, squeaking out a B+. Chain Link Lager is a very clean-tasting, inoffensive lager with just the right amount of malt sweetness IMO. Viennas are not a favourite style of mine - they're hard to nail, and the shoddier examples are usually too sweet for me - so don't mistake my lack of enthusiasm for anything other than personal bias. In fact, I think I'd rank Clifford's offering above a significant chunk of its Ontario-brewed peers... of course, I'd need to compare them side-by-side to know for sure. Time to make a mental note - scrounge up as many other local Vienna lagers as possible for a comparative ranking.
