Inspiration for our beers can come from a litany of sources; sometimes from other beers, and other times from being hung-over at brunch and only being able to choke down toast with those tasty little packets of jelly that they leave on top of the table. With the impending summer hangovers inching closer and closer, we bring you the aptly titled Jelly Packet Tart Breakfast Ale. After spending the weekend partying hard and souring in our brew kettle we ship this beer off to its fermenter where it is greeted with loads of strawberries, orange marmalade, and Concord grapes. The resulting concoction starts off with a strawberry dominant flavor profile that gives way to a jovial mid-palate of the sugary orange peel, finally finishing with just enough of Concord grape so that you know it’s there, but it doesn't take away from the only two flavors of jelly people actually use. Whether you are hung-over at 11am or working towards getting one at 11pm, Jelly Packet Tart Breakfast Ale is the perfect choice, toast or not.

Not my cup of tea. Probably good if you’re into sours. Actually the more sips I take, the more it grows on me. Lots of different fruit flavors and also aroma and slight flavor of rotting tropical fruit on the floor. Not bad!

This was beer #2 in a flight at Fieldwork (Berkeley). Comes out a color with some blend of orange and red. Kinda sunset-esque. 1/4" white head. Aroma was sugary. Definitely doesn't smell like "beer" but a bunch of sugared fruit candies.

Right away the tartness is evident. Any simplistic notions of kettle souring are quelled with an admirable sweet fruity profile and a middle of the road 5 sourness on the 10pt scale. The strawberry seems the most discernable of the "jelly packets" they used (not srs) on this beer. Strawberry seems a tough fruit to make work in beer, but here it works, albeit with plenty of lactose I suspect. And sure enough, seems like there is a medley of other fruit flavors at play as well.

Seems to be a decent beer to put in the middle of a tasting, not much out there that even the most fatigued palate wouldn't get a little reset with a beer like this one.

No false advertising here - Jelly Packet is a melange of fruity, jammy, tart and sweet flavors that cuts through whatever the hell it is taking up space on you palate. Wow. Unreal tart.

I drank this after a coffee stout and the juxtaposition of flavors was immense. Looks and drinks like the sweet and colorful milk left behind after a bowl of Fruit Loops combined with Fruity Pebbles...with a few sour lemons thrown in for kicks.

Tart, jammy fruit, sweet and electric in the way it zaps your palate. Very crisp and feels light once you get past the palate-shock. For me it’s a point-in-time beer that scratches a specific itch; not something I would crack open all that often.

A: Orange/reddish color, opaque with a dense white uniform head with light lacing in the glass.

A: Moderate strawberry, light zesty orange and faint grape, followed by a zippy tartness.

T: Moderate strawberries upfront, followed by a zesty oranges, and light sweet grapes, followed by a zippy lacto tartness on the finish.

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

O: Solid; the beer has a light zippy lacto tartness that complements the strawberry, orange and grape flavors well. Easy to drink and pretty refreshing.
