Just as Japan perfected the toilet, and Turkey perfected drunken 2am sidewalk fare, Belgium perfected the malty beer. While beers without huge hop aromas and/or fruit have become passé as of late, the Belgian Dubbel still reigns supreme with a veritable truck load of complex and rich flavors ranging from black currants and grilled pears to sun-dried dates, dutch cocoa, sweet malts, and burnt sugar, to more subtle notes of palo santo wood and spicy noble hops. Brewed with malts, candi sugars, and yeast from Belgium, Madalynn ticks all the boxes of what we want in a Dubbel with a moderate ABV, retrained hop character, and a flavor profile that melds and changes with the temperature of the beer.
