First review of this beer on BA.
Pours an amber color, leaning into dark amber, seems dark for a raspberry beer. But I guess they use plums too (what is it with Reno breweries and plum wild ales?) so that would explain it moreso. The color and consistency is not the beer's strong arm. The aroma was better, I thought raspberry was most noticeable. Wood, brett, funk notes seemed missing.
Taste was fine, the sourness was about a 4 on the 10pt wild saison scale (yes this is one of those just as much a wild ale saisons). The fruit notes were also just below the average mark in terms of quantity used/impact had. The body was a little heavy for a saison/wild ale, and the abv was present, but not problematic. Its good not great. just like the carbonation. To me it was slightly more wild ale than saison, especially since the yeast just didn't push like a saison yeast should. But the fruit was well done and the acidity and sourness well restrained.
On the upside, I scored this at Winco, always nice to pick up good beer at a great price while you're doing your grocery shopping!
