Aroma is chilies/spices, bready malts and light citrus. The flavor is chilies, bready malts, citrus and a bit of heat in the finish. Actually pretty good, and I really don't like chili beers.

Taste: Sweet caramel malts, mango fruit with a hot pepper finish. slight honey and spiced nose. Amber/Gold, slight haze, big foamy head, some lace. Medium to Med/full body. Toothy mouth-feel, sweet fruit meets heat.

To preface-I'm a friend of the brewer's and a fan of the beers he's made with this brewery (I've probably reviewed more Banging Gavel beers than anybody else on this site). I'm not, however, a fan of beer with the hot spices. I like Cinammon and chai beers, but once we start talking hot peppers, I back up. Two of the few drain pours I've had were very respectable beers in their own right, they were just too goddamn hot for my less than capable taste buds (they were Dragons Milk Reserve with Chilies and Pipeworks Imperial End of Days-only one I've ever drain poured of the probably over 100 of their different beers I've tried). This one was different. The base ale came through very strongly and the spices on this one were more subtle and wound through the rest of the beer with more balance than power. I think this would be interesting to use in a cheese beer soup mix. Just wish I saved my last bottle instead of drinking it on Cinco de Mayo.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
