Had in the first day of winter (With a high of 40 degrees in Chicago that was October 12.) I held this for a few months. But with the alcohol, the 2017 rendition held up fine.
I gave it a hard pour and got a 3" head and what looked like a root beer float; but suds subsided and I got a full-length lace.
Smells? All sweet and spice (cinnamon). Tastes are integrated reasonably well for something so sweet. I guess enough hops did that trick. But the use of what seems to be brewers sugar reminds me of a quad... without the complexity of dried fruit brought on, I presume, by the yeast. Doing Time sits fine enough in the mouth, but is, of course, sweet.
My first from Banging Gavel. Since they seem to have no taproom and listed two 2018 beer fests that I attended, I must have missed them (or they didn't show-up.) Nevertheless, I enjoyed Doing Time, saved some for dessert and wish Banging Gavel well.

Whoo hoo, I'm doing the first review of a beer. First bomber the brewery has made. Dark purplish brown, reminds me of a wine. Light carbonation and foam. Fruity and spicy, but with a healthy burn from a higher than usual ABV for a warmer. Yet another tasty offering from Gavel. Love these guys.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
