this one is pretty intense, but its cool to see a wheatwine done in a belgian style like this, usually belgian yeast isnt part of the mix when i think about the style, so this definitely brings something a bit different to the table. the beer looks dense and slightly hazy, brassy hued and big, without a ton of head on it after it rushes up on the initial pour from the bottle. aroma shows some coriander right away like a wit, a very estery and almost stressed yeast profile with things like skinny green pear and faint detergent to it, some sweetness there as well, and quite a bit of obvious alcohol. the flavor has nice citrus and grain layers, plenty of pale wheat malt in the base giving it an earthy start, interwoven with orange peel oily fruitiness and early bitterness, before the booze and sweetness come in and take over everything. fusel alcohol is robust here, especially at temperature, and the residual sugar is high. i like the belgian yeast with the usual wheatwine characteristics, and almost feel like this would be missing something and kind of boring without it, but there is a limit to how much of a beer like this i want to drink, and its not much more than a small pour. i respect this for being unique though, and think these guys have gotten better and better over the years. give this a try, its really quite different.
