Pours a classic jet black with close to a finger deep foamy tan head that lingers around nicely and produces a reasonable amount of Belgian lacing. The smell is reasonably unique from a sense of maple and caramel character to it. I like the mouth feel. Nicely carbonated texture that enhances the drinkability. The flavors are mirrored nicely from the nose. I little more fruit on the palette along with some bitter roasted notes. The 8.2%ABV is well integrated. One finer drinker. Thanks Ryan!

A: single finger tan head on a clear dark brown body. nice lacing.

S: dark fruit, licorice and chocolate.

T: coffee, dark chocolate and roasted malts. The flavors transition nicely.

M: thick body and moderate carbonation.

Overall: flavorful and complex. I had this one out of a keg from 2010 that was recently tapped at a nearby gasdtropub.

Received as a generous extra from ottodyer sometime this past summer. I'd been saving it until the colder weather showed up.

A - Pours an opaque deep brown, with light shining through only on the edges. A 1-finger thick frothy tan head formed which slowly faded to a thin ring. Spotty lacing formed along the glass as I enjoyed this one.

S - The smell is largely dark, roasted malts, with a strong scent of dark, sweet chocolate. A nicely balanced coffee scent lingers in the nose.

T - Sweet and slightly bitter chocolate notes hit the tongue first. Chocolate covered cherries keep coming to mind with the taste. Lightly hopped and a light smokiness comes through. Wonderful taste.

M - Smooth, creamy mouthfeel with a balanced medium carbonation.

O - Overall this was a well balanced, easy drinking beer. There was no presence of alcohol in the smell or taste, but it crept up on me towards the end and I didn't know how high the ABV was. Definitely one that I'd drink again given the chance.

dark brown/black that let just the slightest light through. Small cream colored head gave was quickly leaving just a bit around the edge till the bottom. Smell was total caramel chocolate malts. A hint of a spiceness as well. Taste was very nice, the nice malts come through beutifully and the mouthfell is almost perfect, goes down very smooth and has a very nice, long lingering almost hopped back. This is a very nice brew

Extra sent to me by ottodyer, thanks! Not sure when this one was bottled. Enjoyed on 07/21/11.

A - Pitch black with hints of red around the sides. A one finger tan head appears and then recedes to a small layer across the top that remains. Leaves a nice wall of lacing. Good looking.

S - Classic porter. Bitter dark chocolate, roasted malts, light hoppiness, some coffee, very little chocolatey sweetness.

T - A little sweeter than the nose, which is welcome. All the above descriptions apply but the bitterness is just a little more balanced by a sweet milk chocolate. Finish is quite roasty and hoppy and dry.

M - The mouthfeel is nice and creamy with pretty good carbonation.

O - Overall, this is a good beer from Weyerbacher. I'm glad to have tried it!

A - Poured with one finger of medium brown foam that settles slowly and leaves little lace. The body is an opaque brownish black.

S - Fruity malt and some dark sugar notes of molasses and brown sugar.

T - Sweet malty notes of dark cherry. Some dark bread and brown sugar in the middle. Things finish up with molasses and light cherry with just a touch of bitterness.

M - Moderately thick body, medium carbonation, and as somewhat sweet finish.

D - A nice, thick beer with lots of dark sugary complexity. There is a nice fruity character that compliments the malt and sugar.

This Porter rocked!, I was very impressed with this brew. The pour was a silky dark black color with a really nice brown head on it. This beer smelled like a mix of fresh wood, burnt toast, some big time hops and a little bit of herbs in there too. The flavor is a awesome, it's super rich with roasted malts and some really great hops in the aftertaste. The mouthfeel was a little thicker that some porters but I enjoyed it like that. The whole time drinking this beer I loved every minute of it. I do agree that this beer could very well and should be a part of the year round brews for Weyerbacher. It's probably the best Reserve brew they have put out to date.

Extra from Ezekiel81923. Thanks Ryan!

A: Dark brown body with an ample, khaki-colored head that leaves stellar lacing.

S: My schnozz is a bit stuffed. I can definitely pick up some roastiness and coffee, plus mild oxidation, which besides some sherry is also imparting a bit of banana, perhaps as a result of the malts and sherry scents combining.

T: Starts off with some fairly rich, roasted maltiness, with a hint of bitter coffee. Sherry and less banana than in the smell come into play in the middle, but then mostly recede, letting the more bitter coffee notes ride out the end of the sip. Aftertaste is just a touch of the coffee in the front of my mouth, and oddly enough I occasionally detect some sherry farther back in my mouth.

M: Real nice. Creamy and fairly full but not too thick, with an appropriate amount of carbonation to keep the beer from getting too heavy.

D: I could definitely have a few of these.

A pretty good beer. Not the most complex ever, and probably past its prime, but enjoyable nonetheless. I doubt many people have been saving bottles of this, but if you're reading this and you have been, pop your Hotel open soon!

From the Brewers Select (NATO alphabet) series. Sampled 11/28/10 from 12oz bottle to tulip. $6.50 for the single.

A: A second wind head rises to a height of two fingers. Creamy in texture and light brown in color, this cap has great retention and eventually deflates into an everlasting collar. The body is very dark brown, if not black, and so opaque that no light passes through, even along the edges of the glass. Lacing is fair.

S: Heavily malted with roasted aromas dominating, mostly chocolate and coffee. Piney hops play a supporting role and charred woody aromas with a touch of fruitiness, mainly cherry and plum. Notes of alcohol in the background.

T: Flavors of bitter chocolate, cocoa powder, coffee and fudge hit your tongue first with subtler contributions of charred wood and soy sauce. The robust flavor does a fine job of burying any alcohol that was present on the nose. Long flavor, moderately sweet with a light acrid bitterness from the chocolate and coffee.

M: The gentle effervescence creates a soft and luxurious mouthfeel. Medium body, creamy texture with a certain grittiness to it. Mild alcoholic heat is noticeable in the back of the throat.

D: Damn fine brew and worthy of being a fixture in Weyerbacher's production schedule. There seems to be some room in their portfolio for a porter too...
