Similar to the fan-favorite San Diego Pale Ale .394, this beer pays tribute to Hall-of-Famer Tony Gwynn and the career-high batting average that he achieved with the Padres in ’94. Hazy .394 showcases an intense hop aroma of tropical fruit and citrus, but delivers a fuller-bodied pour than its predecessor, along with a smooth and creamy finish. It’s a guaranteed hit!

Not as good as the regular 394, imho. It loses the bright fruit and floral elements and replaces it with more malt and riper fruit flavors. It's not bad but most will probably like the OG better. The hazy gold look is amazing, though.

Pours a hazy orange with soapy head.
Smell is fruity and piney with notes of grapefruit, orange, black tea, caramel and some biscuit.
Taste is juicy and fruity with notes of pine, orange juice, grapefruit, peach and black tea. Some sweet malty hints and a moderate bitterness.
Mouthfeel is medium, soft, pillowy and well carbonated.
Overall, a terrific pale ale combiing juiciness and bite very well.

Glass: North Park 16-oz. Willi Becher glass
Price: $3.00

Misc.: Canned on April 25, 2021
Had Rachel pick me up this at Trader Joe’s with some other stuff. Wasn’t expecting much going in because, not only was it an AleSmith hoppy beer but, it was an AleSmith hoppy hazy beer. Really liked regular .394 for the many times I’ve had it but it is very inconsistent to me, not only from draft to can but from one can to the next. But I wanted to give this one a fair shake and I will put all of that out of my head. AleSmith’s online description for this was “Similar to the fan-favorite San Diego Pale Ale .394, this beer pays tribute to Hall-of-Famer Tony Gwynn and the career-high batting average that he achieved with the Padres in ’94. Poured a light amber mucky color with five fingers of rocky white head. Could see plenty of bubble streams coming up along the sides of the glass. World-class spotty, foamy lacing. Perfect retention. (Sight - 4.75)
Smelled orange citrus, iced tea, herbal, mango, earthy caramel malt, lemon, grapefruit and pine. A little better out of the can. (Smell - 3.50)
Tasted a tad better than the nose. A little more citrusy. Got orange citrus, lemon, mango, grapefruit, iced tea, herbal and bitter pine. (Taste - 3.50)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long finish. (Feel - 4.00)
Probably about as good as I thought it was going to be. May have just slightly overrated it all but I’d probably have it again. (Overall - 3.75)

A: hazy; deep gold in color; 1 finger finely pored ivory head that receded to a wispy cap; very nice lacing;
S: floral - reminds me of a dryer sheet;
T: an off putting chemically sour taste; mild to moderate bitterness on the finish;
M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish;
O: not too old, so I don't know what happened here;
