An extra pale ale is a beer style that is open to interpretation by the brewers. Ours is both extra pale and extra hoppy. We kicked up the bitterness with some additions of Simcoe and Centennial hops, but kept the beer both light in color and light in body. Easy drinking, but crafted to leave your tongue coated with a refreshing and crisp hop bitterness.

Type: 16-oz draft
Glass: Waikiki Brewing pint glass
From: Waikiki Brewing Company in Waikiki (Honolulu), Hawaii
Price: $6.50
Purchased: Dec. 21, 2015
Consumed: Dec. 21, 2015
Misc.: Reviewed next door at a Cheeseburger Waikiki
Poured a honey, golden, pale, clear color with 2-to-3 fingers of offwhite, frothy head when I got it. Good looking spiderweb lacing on the sides of the glass. Good retention. (Sight - 4.25)
Smelled cascade hops, soapy notes, specifically Irish Spring, pine, light tangerine rind, citra hops, rye hops, iced tea and orange zest. (Smell - 3.75)
Taste wasn’t quite as good as the nose. Got soapy pine, Irish Spring, citra rind, light simcoe hops, faint resin hops, rye hops, iced tea and some Amarillo hops. (Taste - 3.75)
Light body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Lively carbonation. Abrupt, somewhat bitter finish. (Feel - 3.75)
Not a bad beer at all. One of the better Waikiki beers I’ve rated (only one I’ve reviewed on BA). (Overall - 3.75)
