this is very very light for a brown ale, especially up in the mountains, and especially this time of year, where a heartier take on the style would be a little more appropriate, but its a tasty beer as it is, nice with some of their food (baked goods especially), and on par with what else we had up here. cocoa powder brown in color, with some opacity and a short airy tan head. a bit of a yeast complexion here in the nose and flavor along with the chocolate malt and medium crystal barley. mild, bakery fresh, sort of english. mild bitterness like chocolate and mild sweetness like brown sugar seem to cancel each other out. i like the flavor pretty well here, but it feels way too thin, especially without as much carbonation. a fuller, rounder, more weighty body i think would be an improvement. like their other beers here, this was tasty and fairly well made, but overly safe and extremely generic. this is another upstart craft brown ale recipe without anything at all to make it uniquely their own...
